My Summary
About Me
I am an OFSTED rated outstanding childminder who is also an experienced and fully qualified teacher specialising in early years. I have a degree in early childhood development, and have also completed a level 3 home based childcare course, as well as being paediatric first aid trained. I am also a mother, so have practical experience of parenting a child as well as caring for and educating other people’s children. As a childminder I want to combine all of the best elements of attending a nursery setting, with the benefits of more personalised care within a family environment that can become a home from home for your child.
My Experience
As previously stated, I am an experienced teacher and early years specialist. I believe in the value of play, and am skilled at providing play based activities and resources that help children to learn and develop in all areas. I know where children should be when they start nursery or school, and my background in teaching and understanding of how children learn and develop means that I am able to provide them with fun experiences to ensure that they are where they need to be, or above, by the time they reach school age, and without ever having realised they were doing anything but playing. For older children who require after school care, I am able to provide a fun environment to unwind in. Most importantly, I pride myself on being in tune with a child's needs, and am there to nurture and support them however they need me to.
I have a well-stocked playroom with toys for all ages, lots of baby equipment, and a large garden with fake grass for all year round play, large play equipment and various sports equipment, including a large football goal. I have a variety of resources and sand and water trays to facilitate lots of outdoor learning, and am also developing a new mini beast and growing area this summer.
My Qualifications
I have a degree in Educational Studies with Early Childhood Development and am a qualified primary school teacher and completed a level 3 Home Based Childcare Award prior to becoming a childminder. I am paediatric first aid trained and have completed lots of training throughout my teaching career on a range of topics from behaviour management to special needs.
My Availability
Having juggled being a mum and working full time myself, I aim to be flexible and understanding of the needs of working parents. My standard operating hours are 7.30am until 6.00pm Monday to Friday. However, I may be able to accommodate extended hours depending on the enquiry.

Donna looked after my eldest child since she turned 1. The only childminder I met who wanted to meet me outside of her minding hours as during that time her focus is on the children. On meeting her, I immediately knew she was the one meant to care for my baby in my absence. Her garden is purpose designed for children, her play room is amazing. But Donna herself is absolutely golden.
She plans amazing learning opportunities designed to meet each individual child’s needs. She knows the children and exactly what their strengths are and what areas they need to develop. Having previously taught Nursery, she has an excellent knowledge of the EYFS framework and child development.
I couldn’t count the occasions that I’ve handed her an over tired baby and she’d always adapted naps for them and worked exactly on their schedule. She regularly takes them to the park, soft play, even Paradise Wildlife Park and swimming on occasion.
But the main thing I love about Donna (or ‘My Donna’ as my eldest calls her), is how she nurtures, cares and loves my children like her own. I have absolute trust in her. If you get the chance for her to look after your children - take it!
Donna is so warm and friendly and my two children have really enjoyed spending time after school with her. Donna has created a really welcoming setting where the children feel self and cared for. She is caring, attentive and kind and really good at communicating with parents. I highly recommend her.
Donna has looked after my two girls (age 1 and 4) since October when she relocated to Ware. Donna's the first childminder we've used and we've been really happy. My little one was especially clingy but they both settled really well and Donna is always very caring and calm. Communication has been great - I always know what the girls have been up to, how they've been, eaten, slept, etc. Donna sets up very engaging activities that are fun and educational and she really cares about their development. She's built a great bond with them and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Donna.
Donna provided childcare for my son for approx 18m before she relocated and was truly terrific during this time. My son was very happy in her home whilst in her care.
Donna was always very reliable, flexible and accommodated me wherever possible to fit around my work pattern. She has a lovely manner and speaks to the children nicely, is always calm and kind. Her home is clean and safe and whenever I visited, all the children had been engaged in different activities.
My son loved the various daily outdoor activities available, such as going to different parks, the beach, attending playgroups, going to the shops (the pet shop was a firm favourite) and loved spending time in the garden using the home made facilities available such as mud kitchen and water gizmo.
Not only did Donna provide a safe environment for my son, she also helped him learn, they would spend time writing his name, a little mathematics was covered and she would provide feedback of his progress via a journal.
If there were any queries or concerns, Donna was open and happy to discuss at pick up or drop off. I would occasionally contact Donna during or out of hrs if I had forgotten to mention this or that and would always get a reply. I was happy with comms, v important to be able to communicate.
The feedback from my son was that he felt happy with Donna, was always kept busy!
It’s such an hard decision to decide on who will be looking after your child once your maternity leave comes to end. By choosing Donna your child will be well looked after and able to thrive in a great environment. Donna is well qualified to work with children, she has experience as a teacher as well as as being a qualified childminder. My son joins Donna when he was 14 months old in February 2017 and stays with her until July 2019 and was very happy whilst in her care. As a working parents I did appreciate the regular updates on my sons progress.
