About Me
Hello! I’m 52, Mum to a 15 year old girl stressing about exam year. It’s too much pressure!!
I left teaching in April 2023 and have set up a successful Tutoring and Consultancy business for families in the County Durham area.
Uniquely, I offer face to face phonics and English tuition and travel to your home (where I think children and young people feel much more comfortable). Face to face also gives me the opportunity to talk more with parents/carers and advise re other services the family may find useful.
I love books, theatre, singing, music. I can play clarinet and recorder. I can just about play cello and guitar and I’ve finally got around to treating myself to piano lessons!
My Experience
I’ve been a teacher for 29+ years. Experience - 20+ years in mainstream secondary (11-19+) including 15 as Head of English. Then 7+ years as a primary school special needs teacher with responsibility for English across 2-19 school.
Recently left education system as don’t feel it is meeting the needs of many of our children. I have set up my private tutoring business and look after families with children struggling with some aspect of school. Their needs aren’t being met, or their anxiety is too high.
I also help advise families re dyslexia, ADHD, Autism, EHCPs, Home Education etc
My Qualifications

* Post Grad Diploma in Literacy
* PGCE English and a drama
* Joint BA (Hons) Degree American Studies and Literature
* A levels - English Literature, History, French, General Studies
* Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills
