Hi.
My name is Karen Coghlan and I am a fully registered Childminder and a qualified, experienced child carer who has worked with children for over 18 years. I have also completed a Degree in Early Years Teaching. I live with my family in Leatherhead, near Ashtead.
We do lots of lovely things during the week. During term time we attend local toddler groups, local soft play sessions, visit local National Trust gardens, walk to the park and spend time with other childminders. At home, I enjoy planning creative, messy, sensory and cooking activities, while also playing fun, stimulating activities with the children, that will help them to develop in all areas of the Foundation Stage Curriculum. I provide nutritious home cooked meals.
I am Ofsted registered with an up to date First Aid certificate and CRB check.
My Ofsted rating is GOOD.
My Experience
I have 18 years of childcare experience.
Three years working in a day nursery.
One and half years as a nanny caring for children aged between 1 and 6 years. Three years as a teacher assistant within the reception class at Danes Hill School in Oxshott, Surrey.
From September 2009 I worked as a nanny, while also caring for my own daughter up until the birth of my son.
I have been working as a childminder since October 2012.
My Qualifications
BA Honours Degree in Early Years Teaching
NVQ Level 3 in Early Years Childcare and Education
GNVQ in Health and Social Care
9 GCSE Level C and above.
My Availability
I currently have space Tuesday to Thursday. My working hours are 7:30 am to 6 pm, however I would be happy to care for children during school hours. I drop off and pick up from Greville Primary School in Ashtead.

We were very happy and made the right choice in sending our son to Karen when he turned one. He was happy and loved being with Karen as well as being a part of her family on his days there.
Karen has a lovely manner with the children in her care. She always seems kind, calm and patient with them and all the children are happy, well behaved and know what’s expected of them. Karen was good at getting out and about whatever the weather, she regularly took the children to national trusts, parks and in the garden as well as local toddler groups.
She has a great variety of toys which she gets out in rotation to follow themes and have educational benefits as well as the children enjoying their playtime. Baking, art and messy play are also regular activities which our son loved. Karen also sent home learning activities for us to do with our son. We feel he learnt a lot from spending time with Karen.
When we collected at dinner times the food looked and smelt tasty with Karen trying to accommodate everyone’s dietary requirements as best she could. The menus provided a good variety of nutritional snacks/meals.
We always felt very comfortable asking questions about our son and Karen promptly answered.

Karen looked after our daughter for 4 years from age 1 to age 5. The care she gave our daughter was superb and I cannot fault it. She was great at communicating with us and we worked through everything together. She planned great activities at home and out and about.
Our daughter loved going there and made great friends and developed wonderfully well and was very prepared for when she started school thanks to all the work Karen did.
