My Summary
About Me
My name is Timea Terzic. I live in Northfield, Birmingham with my two daughters aged 17 and 14years old. I am originally from Hungary and I came to the UK as a au-pair in 1996. Then I became a student and I settled down, got married and before the birth of my first daughter I started studying childcare and I am passionate about children and helping them to realize their full potential.I have worked in childcare for the past 15 years and after my recent redundancy I decided that it was time for me to realize my dreams of becoming a childminder.
My Experience
During my employment at a children’s centre, I have learned a great deal and it has shown me that that working with children and in a care based role is my passion. I have grown as a professional in this role and worked through various roles and age groups, offered in the children’s centre.
I have been a keyworker for groups of children, which holds responsibilities such as developing their fundamental skills, encouraging typical development and giving them a structured daily routine. I have also been a curriculum leader, planning what the children would be doing each day e.g. fun activities that helped them to learn in line with the Early Years Foundation documents.
I was often in collaboration with a small number of colleagues which worked in the same room a particular age group. We each had areas of the room we were responsible for planning activities. I needed to ensure that the activities planned in the room were fun for the children but also ensured that the children were going to be working on developmental milestones, e.g. counting, sharing.
The children’s centre was in a socially deprived area and many of the children came from homes that did not have lots of toys and resources available to them. This showed me the diversity of different families and situations and inspired me to give them opportunities that may not be available to them.
Other children have been late in some of their developments and have needed extra support, this has been challenging but also very rewarding. For example, there was an autistic child that would not sit to eat his lunch; therefore myself and a colleague worked as team to be able to get him to sit and eat at a table. Through working with children with extra needs, I have developed skills in making referrals to other professionals and creating Individual Educations Plans.
I have worked with various professionals in my time at the Children’s Centre and this has allowed me to learn about other’s roles and the importance of their knowledge and expertise. I have
worked with SEN’s, SALTs, safeguarding and I have also mentored several students during their college qualifications. I feel that working with various other professionals has helped me to grow my own knowledge and mentoring students has shown I have valuable knowledge to support and educate future nursery practitioners. This has also been useful as they have given me different ways of thinking and kept me up to date with current information and practice.
