Childminder in Wells - Rachel Gadd
I live in Wells, Somerset and I have been working with young children and babies since 1987. I had my 2nd Ofsted inspection as a childminder in October 2019 and received an overall grading of 'outstanding' in all areas.
I believe in providing security, a caring environment, meaningful play experiences and a relaxed, homely setting where children can have fun in their own, unique ways and progress at their own rate by taking part in activities they enjoy.
I have been living in Somerset since 1999 and live with my family and our small dog, a beautiful cat and a tortoise. I like to be outside, particularly enjoying walks with my family and visiting my extended family back at home in Cornwall, where we tend to spend most of our holiday time on the beach (whatever the weather)!
The children I care for are offered a wide range of play and real-life experiences, including small world activities, arts and crafts, outside play, gardening, woodland walks and trips to the local parks, shops and local amenities. I follow a blended approach to childcare and early education and am a Forest Childcare provider.
Babies in my care are given ample opportunities to play, socialise, get plenty of fresh air and have loads of cuddles whenever they're needed! All of the children are offered activities to promote their continuing development - I follow the Early Years Foundation Stage For Childminers (EYFS).
My Experience
In the past I've worked as a private nanny, a nursery nurse, a nursery manager and a Pre-School manager. I have previously specialised in caring for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and have worked closely with other professionals in the sector to help provide appropriate care for those children.
I can offer you a personal, trusting, supportive and friendly childcare experience, that respects each family's unique set of values.
My Qualifications
I gained an NNEB Certificate in Nursery Nursing qualification in June 1990 (level 3 equivalent).
I have attended many courses and training workshops during the course of my career and have a current Paediatric 1st Aid Certificate.
I have recently completed additional training courses as listed below:

I am a firm believer in keeping up-to-date with changes within the childcare sector and attend regular training courses and workshops to ensure I'm on the ball.
My Availability
I currently have spaces becoming available in September 2024.
I am available for Early Years children from Tuesday to Friday inclusive from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

My Fees
- Childminding from £6.00 per hour
Fees will be invoiced monthly, in advance.
I charge by the hour and am competitive with other childminders in the area.
I do not charge for bank holidays, if I am on leave or if I have to close unexpectedly.
I can accept children in receipt of the government funded & subsidised early years education entitlement and am signed up to accept tax-free childcare payments.

Our daughter has been going to Rachel since she was 13 months old and she is now coming up to 2 years old and we couldn’t be happier with how things have gone. Our daughter took to Rachel very quickly which was a huge relief as we had previously had an upsetting experience when we started her at a local nursery where she failed to settle in.
Rachel is very caring, kind and patient and it’s obvious that all the children in her care absolutely love being with her. Our daughter is so excited to see her and the other children when we drop her off in the morning and it really puts us at ease knowing she’s happy and that we’re leaving her in a safe and loving environment.
Rachel does lots of different activities throughout the week which the children, from outings to the park and soft-play centers, to arts and crafts at home.
We get updates and photos every week from Rachel which is lovely and something that we really look forward to.
We have already asked Rachel if our second child can attend when he is old enough and we would thoroughly and wholeheartedly recommend Rachel.

My daughter has been with Rachel over a year, I've always found Rachel to be approachable and pro active, she genuinely enjoys having her little friends at her house and they are happy to be there. Prior to Rachel's we started at a nursery but lasted less than 4 weeks before I brought my daughter home feeling she was not being cared for. Rachel is interested in every one of her children and creates activities to meet all their needs. I will be confident to leave my son with Rachel when I return to work. Feel blessed to have found Rachel and would highly recommend her. Thank you Rachel :)

Rachel is a fantastic childminder. She plans her week with the children to ensure that they have fun filled and varied days and often with a theme that runs through the activities and crafts that they do.
She regularly meets with other childminders in the area so the children are socialising with more than just the ones in her care, and she takes them out most days to a toddler group, to the woods, park or soft play.
My son is always so happy to arrive at Rachel’s house in the morning- he trots off and is completely relaxed and at home there, he often cries and protests loudly when I come to take him home as he just wants to stay playing.
Her house is filled with interesting objects for the children to explore and to promote creative play and she comes up with fantastic, fun and creative activities that provoke their imagination and encourage learning.
Rachel’s family are lovely, friendly and very welcoming. They have a genuine interest in the children and I feel confident that when I drop my son off in the morning that he is being included in a very loving and caring family unit.

Rachel is amazing! My children love going with her and she often provides them with activities that are well thought out and delivered. It’s wonderful to feel like your children are okay and happy for someone to take them to school and help them start their day in a positive way, especially when you can’t. Highly recommend Rachel as her experience and knowledge are evident in the way she works with my children.
