Hi, I'm Rachael, an Ofsted registered childminder in Oakwood, Derby. I work with two Ofsted registered assistants and offer day care for children aged 4 weeks to 5 years. I also drop off/collect from Parkview Primary School in Oakwood.
Here at Oakwood Childminding, I aim to provide a stimulating and fun, safe, home-from-home experience for the children, whilst offering a professional and affordable service to parents.
I live with my husband, Tony, who is a secondary school Maths Teacher, and my 2 children, both of whom are at Parkview Primary. Completing the family is Gizmo, our dog, who after being brought up with children, has a wonderful nature and offers children a positive introduction to animals.
We live in a 4 bedroom detached house in Oakwood with plenty of space for the children to play and move around. We have a secure rear garden and loads of age appropriate toys and resources. The house is within comfortable walking distance of the park, woods, shops, library, children centre, leisure centre and school.
We prepare healthy home cooked and age appropriate food for the children in my care, we like to plant our own vegetables in the garden and learn about where food comes from. Children are encouraged to try new foods and are taught how to make healthy food choices.
We follow a regular routine which provides stability for the children. Our days include a morning welcome session with lots of singing, counting and chat about the forthcoming day. We allow plenty of time for children to try and put their own coats and shoes on and be independent in other ways.
We enjoy doing lots of craft and baking activities and we always have a selection of messy play/sensory trays to explore. Finally, we fully understand the importance of being physically active and on top of walking the school run whenever possible and regular dancing sessions, we also play outside every day including a visit the park after the afternoon school run.
We are out and about each morning visiting toddler groups, parks, soft play and so on. The activities I plan are fun and educational and there are ample opportunities for children to socialise with other children. With a mix of ages and personalities and a relaxed, informal atmosphere I really do try to create a home-from-home for the children.

My Experience
My own children are aged 13 and 11 years so I have plenty of recent experience with young children. Both of my assistants have young children of their own and have worked in childcare for several years.
In my role as childminder I have extensive recent experience in caring for children under 5 years of age from non-mobile babies in the process of weaning through to 4 year old pre-school children. Both myself and my assistants regularly undertake training to further develop our knowledge and skills.
I am a Safeguarding Champion for Derby City. This means I am extremely well informed in how to safeguard the children in my care. I support other early years professionals in Safeguarding issues.
My Qualifications
I am Ofsted registered and achieved a GOOD rating during my inspection in 2017.

My Fees
- Childminding from £4.50 per hour
£40 per day inclusive of all meals, toddler groups and other activities.
£29 per short day (Max 6 hours) inclusive of lunch, snacks and all activities.
I offer 15/30 hours funded childcare for 3 & 4 year olds and eligible 2 year.
