My Summary

My Experience

For the past two years I have spent my summers working at summer schools both in the UK and USA. I have worked closely with children ranging from ages 5-16. Last year I worked for embassy summer, a company who specialises in running summer schools for international children. I was employed as a house parent and it was my responsibility to care for the children and ensure that their welfare was maintained. In addition it was my job to make sure the children followed the daily routine. This included wake up and bed time duties, ensuring children arrived for classes on time and making sure all the children took part in other activities such as sport, art and music.

Furthermore, I have worked closely with children who speak little or no English.
I am an energetic and caring individual who is passionate about working with children.

I was given the opportunity to work at an activity camp in Maine, USA. The camp that employed me was an activity and arts camp. I was employed as a lifeguard and camp counsellor. As a camp counsellor I was entrusted with a group of girls aged 10-12 and it was my responsibility to act as their ‘mother away from home’. This included maintaining the welfare of all the campers, ensuring their safety and acting as their main point of contact. It was my responsibility to ensure that the children made the most of their camp experience. This included helping select activities that they would enjoy, ensuring that they maintained their hygiene and a healthy diet and ensuring all the campers actively participated in the different areas of camp life. This job was challenging as I had to deal with homesickness, resolve arguments and help timid children break out of their shell. Although it was challenging this job was also extremely rewarding because it helped me step out of my comfort zone and wok in a challenging environment. One of my favourite aspects of this job was watching the children enjoying their experience at camp and recognising that I had played an active role in their happiness.

I have also worked as a teaching assistant in a primary school in Hackney, providing support to Nursery and Reception classes. I have therefore had experience working with young children and have enjoyed taking an active role in their development. Whilst working as a teaching assistant I was expected to support the children during class activities, supervise play time and organise group activities.

I was a nanny for a little boy from October 2016-October 2017
