About Me
I am a qualified Maternity nurse with the MNT certificate with 17 years experience with newborn babies and 12 years experience as a qualified nanny with the NNEB certificate.
I have an up to date CRB and first aid certificate and have attended conferences on Breastfeeding, reflux & allergies, post natal depression and sleep training.
I have also volunteered as a breastfeeding peer support worker at my local hospital.
I initially started my career working in Prendergast nursery as a nursery nurse working with 3-5 years olds. I was working as part of a team of 2 teachers and 3 other nursery nurses. I was able to develop my understanding of children and their physical, intellectual, emotional and social needs.
I then moved onto the private sector working as a nanny for a number of families over a 12 year period. I was fortunate enough to work in Italy and Switzerland and managed to pick up the language whilst I was there!
I had a career change in 2004 and joined Thames Valley Police as a Police constable so I am extremely good at dealing with the general public and various agencies and I am able to adapt to any given situation.
Having had a few years out of the child care sector in November 2007 I decided to attend the MNT maternity nursing course at Reading university where I gained a 98% pass mark.
Since that time I have been working with newborn babies and their families in ensuring all of their needs as a family unit are met.
My Experience
I have worked with a number of newborn babies since November 2007. I encourage and assist the Mum in all aspects of care for their baby from helping to ensure breast/bottle feeding is going well, putting in practice good day/night time sleeping habits and undertaking all nursery duties including sterilization of bottles etc laundry for the baby and making sure everything is to hand for a calm environment,

Julia has been outstanding, and I cannot recommend her highly enough.
As an incomplete tetraplegic I struggle with my hand function and mobility, and we employed Julia for three weeks after the birth of our first child to help me care for him.
Even before she started Julia was a great source of information and advice, and helped us prepare what we might need for when our son was born.
When she arrived, despite us living in a small bungalow, Julia fitted in straight away and we felt extremely at ease with having her around. In fact her calming presence and expertise greatly reduced my new Mum worries and concerns. Both my husband and I learnt so much during her time with us, and gave us the confidence we needed in how to look after our new son.
In addition to her wealth of baby knowledge and experience, Julia also had my welfare in mind and ensured I was always hydrated, fed, and given opportunities to rest and sleep. She looked after us as a family and gave my husband and I time to spend together, and even go out for dinner.
Furthermore where she excelled was in her attention to detail in keeping our home clean and tidy, our bungalow has never been so well looked after.
I feel we have been truly spoilt in having Julia as our maternity nurse, and will happily provide a reference for anyone considering employing her.
Overall
Julia has been a real support to me and my husband following the birth of our new daughter. Having a toddler already Julia quickly and efficiently got to grips with what we needed and supported us in the first few weeks as we adjusted to the new demands of the situation.
She was prompt, reliable and offered her advice in a discreet and supportive way. She was extremely knowledgable about all aspects of babies and breastfeeding which was really helpful. It was particularly useful to get her advice on the sleep issues that our toddler was experiencing and she also advised us on how best to settle our new born into a sleep routine.
I was at first apprehensive about letting a stranger into our family home during such an intimate family time but those thoughts quickly evaporated in the first few hours that she was with us.
I have since asked Julia to come back to help out with our now 3 month daughter so i could focus on potty training our other child.
I highly recommend Julia if you are looking for an experienced maternity nurse who will help you adapt to being a new parent and is on hand to answer all those concerns and niggles that you have regarding your new baby.
