About Me

Hi I'm Karly, I have 21 years experience of working with children from birth to 14 years, both as a nursery practitioner and a sole charge private nanny. I'm 38 and Mummy to a beautiful and very lively one year old! I live in Colchester, I drive, hold a full clean driving licence and have my own reliable car.

By nature I am a happy and caring person. From an early age I have always gravitated towards caring for children, knowing that was the career path I wanted to take. The first childcare qualification I gained was an ‘A’ at GCSE level, then went on to gain my level 3 in Childcare and Education after two years at college. Whilst working as a senior nursery practitioner I wanted to broaden my knowledge and personal development, leading me to successfully earn my NVQ level 4 in Children’s Care Learning and Development.

I am a confident, caring and calm child carer, extremely punctual, well mannered, creative and keen to take on any tasks asked of me.

My Experience

I have been qualified for 21 years, I worked for 7 years in an ‘outstanding’ nursery, and made my way to senior practitioner for the last 4 of those years. My role involved looking after children aged 0-5 primarily in charge of the 2-3 room. Using initiative, common sense, being organised, having a good understanding of child development, and being easy to get on with are all part of my role within the nursery.

I left nursery to become a private nanny, where I'm now into my 12th year and loving every minute! My roles and responsibilities for previous and current positions include school/nursery run for the older children and all day care for the youngest child/children. Our time is taken up with attending toddler groups, swimming, play dates, creative craft activities, baking, and enjoying being in the great outdoors. Assisting and helping with homework for the eldest child, preparing meals for the children and light household chores, for example keeping the house tidy, load/unload dishwasher, sorting the play room and occasionally doing the children's washing.

Having worked within the childcare environment for all of my adult life, I feel I have built up a wide range of knowledge and skills to enable me to adapt and work well with children of varying ages, abilities, personalities and needs. I have been able to build a great rapport with the families I work with and continuously strive to provide a safe, caring, nurturing and stimulating environment, enabling the children in my care to thrive and develop to their full potential.

My Qualifications

After attending college for two years I gained my level 3 qualification in Childcare and Education in 2003. I have since completed my NVQ level 4 whilst working. I have completed a number of paediatric first aid courses keeping myself up to date. I have also had asthma and allergy training including epi pen.
