My Summary
About Me
I consider myself to be a reliable, caring and outgoing person. I have previously worked in a variety of care settings. The most rewarding aspect is to see the individuals you work with enjoy and achieve with your support. Personally I enjoy being outside with the children and young people I work with and carrying out arts and crafts activities with them.
My Experience
I have had four years experience working in early years’ settings; a nursery school and a smaller family run nursery. My main experience has been working with the toddler age group; but I have worked with all ages from three months to reception age. My main responsibility was being a key worker; this meant ensuring children’s care and learning needs where addressed and met. In order to achieve this I worked closely with the children’s parents; and built up a good working relationship by ensuring there was a good dialogue between us.
I have encountered multi-agency working; I worked very closely for fifteen months with a child with a hearing impairment and her parents. I liaised with the teacher of the deaf and speech and language therapist to aid me in planning the best care for her additional needs. I used some British Sign Language when communicating with the child; and vocal language to promote her speech.
For five years, I have worked as a volunteer at a disabled camp for children and young people, working as part of a team making sure that the children who visit the camp have as much fun as possible, and to also carry out activities that they may not be able to experience in their day to day lives. I have worked with individuals with Autism, Down syndrome and an individual with a physical disability and used a wheel chair.
I have also worked with a teenager with Autism on a Sunday as well as working at the nursery. I carried out training with Cool2care; and they continued to support the carer to make a link to families who required care in their local area. I met a family who required a female to help assist a male carer to provide respite care for their son. I worked jointly with the other carer to take the teenager to activities he enjoyed; on occasion I would take him individually. He enjoyed activities such as going to places that provided indoor soft play, swimming and skating.
I have worked as a play worker, working with different children needing different ratio requirements. The day is structured around four sessions with different children; whereby you deliver individual activities for the children in your care.
I have enjoyed the relationship and the bond you can get with families working in their home environment. I ideally would like a permanent position where I can apply my skills and experience in childcare within an environment that will provide me with a challenge, and allow me the opportunity to learn and ultimately make a difference to an individual’s life.
