My name is Stephanie Roberts and I write to you in response to the position of Childminder/ Nanny/ Housekeeper. I feel I would be an ideal candidate for this role. I would like to highlight a number of qualities that I possess that meet the requirements. They are as follows;

What interests me in the position?
There are a number of things that attract me to this position. First and foremost, quite simply, I love working with children. I have a genuine passion for helping children grow and develop. I understand that as a family, welcoming somebody new can be a daunting challenge. However, through my experience within childcare, teaching and with the additional experience of working in the care sector, I know that I would be the perfect candidate to help your children flourish, feel safe, valued and ultimately have fun whilst in my care. I appreciate boundaries and remain professional at all times. Over the years I have acquired a personable and approachable manner. I relish a challenge. I possess a quiet determination and a calm, patient nature. In the past, colleagues have commented on my bubbly, smiley nature and mature approach to everything I do. I understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality.
I truly understand the benefits of allowing children to explore their passions, interests and talents. I am happy to be involved with your children’s interests and any hobbies etc.
Communication is crucial and I would endeavour to keep you informed of any issues and provide regular updates to provide you peace of mind.
I am used to long hours with a range of jobs to get done and I am able to meet these tasks successfully. I am able to organise a day and make sure all is done so a weight is lifted from you. I am a people person; I will always try and help wherever possible without interfering. I enjoy being creative, exploring and visiting new places, and taking part in social activities in the community.
I am a friendly and approachable individual that people tend to warm to. I maintain a level of maturity to deal with situations where utmost sensitivity and professionalism is required. I very much enjoy helping children grow and develop; assisting children in a safe and secure environment where their needs are met and valued. , I am enthusiastic and passionate about my work and I am always seeking new ways to make children’s learning and development fun and interesting.
Have you ever worked in any other areas other than childcare? Yes- I started my career in retail and bar/waitressing jobs. After finishing university and completing my PGCE in Secondary Music, I moved into the care sector. Since 2012, I have worked with children from early years (reception/foundation stage through to secondary school level) as well as babysitting and child minding roles.

What appeals to you about being a Nanny? In my opinion, there is nothing more rewarding than working with children and helping them to grow and develop, interact, explore, be inspired, be fun and happy children and helping to support their health and well-being. Knowing you have played an integral role in a child’s future is fantastic.
What age of children do you enjoy working with most and why? I enjoy working with younger children because I have always had a very maternal instinct. I understand the pressures of raising a family and working to support that family is difficult at times and being able to support a family with young children is ever so rewarding.
How long do you usually find yourself staying in a position? This really does vary depending on the nature of the role and the company. I have stayed in some jobs for 2 years, others a few months depending on the contract type eg Supply work, maternity cover, school holiday cover only, work in the interim whilst pursuing teaching posts etc.

As a Nanny how do you feel about being asked to do housework and ironing? I am more than happy to help with housework and other domestic duties where required as long as these tasks do not detract from the time given to caring for the children. I actually love to clean and tidy and keep a house looking homely and well-loved and maintained too.

What meals do you cook for children, including baking? Meals that I have prepared for children in the past have ranged from mini roast dinners, vegetable/ beef lasagne, mild chicken and spinach curry from scratch, mild lentil curry from scratch, jacket potatoes with variety of fillings and salads, grilled fish with seasonal vegetables. Home-made fruit salad. As for baking- cupcakes/ fairy cakes/ brownies.
What are your hobbies and interests? I enjoy Performing Arts. Singing. I like to read and watch films. I like to cross stitch. I like to go walking in the hills and I am also a keen songwriter and poet.
What methods of discipline do you use in childcare? The main methods of discipline I use are state and wait, time outs and speaking in a calm yet authoritative tone maintaining eye contact explaining to the child if they have misbehaved etc. I also set boundaries and behaviour expectations or a contract of house rules. I employ a rewards/ sanctions system and use plenty of praise to encourage exemplary behaviour.

Describe your perfect day as a Nanny. My perfect day as a Nanny would include helping the children with their morning routine, preparing breakfast, asking the family if there is anything they need completed that day in addition to any pre-planned activities for the children and housework. School run during a week day. Taking the children either out to a community group, reading with the children, and a range of other activities throughout the day. I would definitely include time for the children to explore independently under my supervision- play with toys etc. Help with housework and prepare a meal if needed. Bit of time to read. Help with the children’s evening bedtime routine.
What arts and crafts do you like doing with the children? Origami, hand painting, drawing, clay modelling, braiding, singing, dancing, acting, collage, paper mache.
If you had not decided to become a Nanny, what other career do you think you would be doing? Teaching, stage performer.
What time are you prepared to start and finish each day? 6am-child’s bedtime
Are you ok with cats and dogs in the house? Yes- in fact, I love both.

I have held a variety of childminding and nannying posts of which I can provide an employment history upon request. I hold a Common Core Skills Certificate through The London School of Childcare Studies. I hold a Paediatric First Aid Qualification valid until Jan 2025.
