My Summary
About Me
Hello, my name is Nicola Kendrew and I have been a registered Childminder since June 2006. My latest Ofsted inspection was in May 2022 where I was delighted to receive my third Outstanding grade.
I live with my husband, my son aged 22 and daughter aged 19 in Calverley, Leeds. The ground floor of my home is used for childminding and I have a dedicated playroom and enclosed rear garden.
At Nicola's Childminding Service provides an early years childminding setting with school wrap around care for older siblings who attend Calverley C of E Primary School.
My setting is open during Leeds Term Time - Monday - Wednesday, 7.30am - 5.30pm
I accept Childcare Vouchers, Tax Free Childcare and am registered to offer the 9 month old and 2 year old government funded childcare, as well as the 3/4 year old free early education entitlement (FEEE) and 15 hours additional childcare allowance (if applicable).
My Experience
I understand that children learn through everyday routines and play experiences. I am passionate about my chosen career and aim to provide an environment that is safe, caring, fun and stimulating, where children have access to a variety of resources and activities based around their individual interests and needs. During our week we enjoy lots of outings to parks, Calverley woods, local play centres, the library and other places of interest. I am a member of the Forest Childcare Association and committed to providing opportunities for outdoor play and learning. We love to be outdoors exploring!
I am also a Playgroup Leader at Calverley Playgroup and children attending my setting on a Tuesday get to attend as well. This provides an early introduction into a pre-school type of environment where children have the opportunity to interact with larger groups of children beneficial for starting pre-school nursery and school.

When we found out Nicola had some space for our first child we were over the moon, having met her previously at the local playgroup she runs with some other childminders in the village. Nicola was always the person our son gravitated towards and she really helped him to settle when he struggled so much being left at first. Nicola went on to care for our son and then our daughter and we could not be happier with the standard of care she provides. Both children love being with her, and we love knowing they are safe and having all of their needs met. On top of that they have both really progressed and have been supported amazingly to meet all of their milestones. Although our son is now in school full time, he loves any opportunity to head back to Nicolas, and even called his first build-a-bear Nicola! When I ask the children what their favourite thing is about Nicolas, one said ‘everything!’ and the other said ‘Nicola’ 🥰

I consider myself to be extremely fussy when it comes to childcare for my children, sending them to Nicola’s has been the best decision I have ever made. I have sent all three of my children from a young age to Nicola’s setting and they have all flourished in her care. Nicola offers a range of activities from crafts and painting to water activities and trips out to the local library, soft play and park as well as further afield to places like Harlow Carr gardens and Harewood House. It’s an amazing home from home environment, my children can’t wait to be dropped off and are always excited to show me what they have been up to. Nicola always plans activities based on your child’s interests, for example on a rainy day during lockdown, she set up an indoor obstacle activity for my one year old as Nicola had seen my child enjoying climbing, Nicola really goes above and beyond for the children in her care. Leaving my children with Nicola is just like leaving them with family and in such a warm and welcoming environment, We feel extremely lucky to have found Nicola and cannot recommend her highly enough, she truly is an outstanding childminder!

Nicola has been our daughter’s childminder for approx 2.5 years and we couldn’t be happier! Our daughter is excited to attend Nicola’s setting and is often upset when it isn’t a ‘Nicola day’. The setting is child oriented, safe and inviting. Nicola goes above and beyond for the children in her care and is a first class childminder. If you manage to get a place you have secured gold dust.
