About Me

Hello all!

My name is Laura, I'm 28 and originate from Leeds. I moved to Lincoln in 2014 to study teacher training at Bishop Grossteste University, a fantastic teaching institute. I graduated with a BA in Primary Education in 2017 and was granted Qualified Teacher Status. Since graduating I have taught classes ranging from Reception to Year 6. I am currently a reception class teacher and have been for the last 5 years. I love every second of my job!

Currently, I am only available over summer due to a busy teaching lifestyle.

Firstly, as a teacher I want to emphasise that your child will be fine in September! You would be surprised by how quickly children pick up information; they will always astound you, as they astound me! However, I understand that it is difficult to see your child out of mainstream education, especially if you have been working from home or are a keyworker yourself. Having no children of my own I would like to help families support their child to the best of their abilities. This may be through formal tutoring or simply childcare over summer whilst you go to work!

From teaching, I know full well that not all children are the same. Because of this, I enter into every teaching/caring role with a fresh mindset. I'm very encouraging and positive, with a smile for everyone! Whilst it's important that children are continually developing, I know that everyone progresses differently and so I work to fit my expectations around the individual. I am completely non-judgemental as I know that lives don't fit into neat little boxes, so I am more than happy to adapt to any situation! With that in mind, I am totally willing to do some homework of my own to understand any situation a little better, if needed.

I know that learning isn't fun for a lot of young people, so I give my students multiple different activities in sessions to keep their brains engaged. If one doesn't work out, then we move on. For young learners, I have found that it is often beneficial to address more than one subject in an hour, such as maths and literacy, to keep them active. However, again, this may not work for different learners and as such I will be happy to change this for you.

To me, learning is very much a two-way street. If a student doesn't want to learn, then that creates a discussion point for us and anybody involved. I personalise all of my sessions for the individual, so if something doesn't work for them, we try something else. However, I do require some dedication from learners. I will make clear my expectations from the first session so that they can decide if I will be a good tutor for them or not.

My Experience

Over the past few years, I have taught my own classes of Reception, Y1 and Y2 children and have loved every second of them. At university, I specialised in KS2 teaching which allows me to see the next steps for all primary children.

I have younger siblings of my own and from a young age I have been put in charge of them. This was invaluable experience for me, as it taught me to understand the importance of a trustworthy carer. I aim to create this sense of familiarity with any children I work with!

Through this website, I have babysat a 3 year old child for half a year whilst at university, which was a delight. I have also tutored a KS1 child across a range of subjects.

My Qualifications

I have A-Levels in English Language, English Literature and Psychology.

I have graduated from Bishop Grossteste University with a BA (Hons) in Primary Education.
