My Summary
Trustworthy, Experienced (Including Sens), Dedicated And Outdoorsy Nanny/Babysitter At Your Service
About Me
Dear families,
My name is Jan and I am 33 years old.
I've been professionally looking after children as a full time Au pair, Nanny (both live-in and live-out), Babysitter, and also as a Volunteer, for the last 8 years and counting.
I'm also a qualified Post-natal Maternity Nurse and a registered childcare provider for Tax Free Childcare.
If able to, you can claim back my fees as childcare expenses through the Universal Credit.
I'm currently looking for one or two families to work for part-time 1, 2, or 3 days per week from mid July, from August, or September.
This can include weekends.
Occasional babysitting also available.
I'm and will continue looking after 6 months old baby girl 2 days a week, which from November will be Thursday and Friday for the long term, but it's possible to shift them to those days earlier.
I'm also looking after 5 months old baby boy 1 day a week for the short term, might be extended.
I'm booked for every Monday for another family, but that's only until late August.
I'm based in Kensington Olympia, but am considering moving to Fitzrovia or Camden Town because of better public transport connections both North and South.
Now a bit more about me and my experience:
Most of the time, I was in sole charge of the child/ren I cared for, and some of it was shared care.
Proxy parenting was not a problem either. In some families, I was proxy parenting multiple times a year for various lengths of time, up to 4 weeks straight at a time.
I've cared for children ranging from newborns to teenagers.
This included the usual day-to-day tasks, such as feeding, weaning, bathing, nappy changing, kids related cleaning and laundry, assisting with homework and reading, school and nursery runs, and more.
I am no stranger to looking after children with ASD and other SENs of various severity. It was mostly via babysitting, which allowed me to connect with and support children and families of diverse needs.
I also looked after children with cerebral palsy and other disabilities caused by genetic conditions.
I like to play with children various games at home as well as in the parks (some educational in one way or another, some to have fun and chill). I took them out and about into museums, zoos, parks, playgroups, soft plays, various classes and lessons, forts, castles and caves, fairs, theatres and cinemas, Digger Land, for a swim, and to many more places and activities.
Most importantly, I made always sure they feel safe, comfortable, and cared for, especially without the presence of their parents, and provided enough care and affection to achieve this.
I could work as self employed in temporary positions (live-out only).
For longer term positions, employment will be necessary (HMRC rarely recognise nannies as self employed).
And let's not forget that I'm also available for babysitting (also as self employed).
In case of babysitting and temporary arrangements
- I will always provide you with a legal invoice.
- If you claim your childcare costs from the Universal Credit, I'll give you all the necessary information, my OFSTED registration details included.
I am registered with OFSTED.
I also completed a few childcare related courses and earned a few certificates:
- Common Core Skills & Knowledge training for the child care workforce
- Maternity Nurse training course accredited through the Open College Network
- Paediatric First Aid certification
- Level 3 Diploma in Child Care & Development
as well as a few other child related certificates, such as Safer Sleeping For Babies, Understanding And Addressing Behaviour, and Safeguarding Children.
To deepen my understanding of children and better support their emotional well-being, I'm currently pursuing, amongst other courses, a degree in Child Psychology, with a long-term goal of becoming a Play Therapist. My studies are entirely online and during my free time.
I also have
- Enhanced DBS check on the update register
- Public Liability Insurance
- Professional Indemnity Insurance
- Full driving licence
Amongst others, some of my favourite activities to do with kids are:
Anything that guarantees us getting out of the house to explore, get moving, get fresh air, see places, see and interact with people, and so on.
This includes going with them to soft plays (and actually playing with them there when they want, instead of staring into the phone), going to the parks and playgrounds, swimming, having picnics, visiting castles, and many more.
Playing and staying with the kids at home is fine, too.
Doing arts and crafts, building things from magnetiles, and making forts are, amongst other things, great activities to let them express themselves and to see (and positively influence) the progress of their learning and understanding everyday things and also some difficult and abstract concepts.
I started my childcare journey as an Au pair in 2016, looking after 4-year-old triplets and their 7-year-old brother in a single-parent household. If the position was called a Substitute parent, it would nicely encompass my responsibilities and working hours.
Later on, I worked in various families across the UK as a live-in Nanny. In some, it was full-time, and in some part-time. I took over all childcare-related responsibilities, including laundry, medical care, cooking, and so on.
In some of those families, I also repeatedly looked after the children when their parents were away on business trips and abroad for various lengths of time, usually 1-4 weeks (proxy-parenting).
My Experience
Live-in full time au pair and nanny (80%+ sole charge and proxy parenting): for 8 years - taking care of boys and girls ranging from newborns to teenagers.
Often babysitting for other families.
I took care of twins, triplets, and children with a wide range of special needs, including autism with ranging severity (severe - high functional, verbal / nonverbal), Down syndrome, ADHD, and various developmental delays.
My Qualifications
Maternity Nurse training accredited through the Open College Network
Common Core Skills & Knowledge course for the childcare workforce
Paediatric First Aid certificate.
Level 3 Childcare and Development Diploma
GCSE equivalent Functional Skills in English and Maths
a full UK Driving Licence.
Level 3 Safeguarding Children - in progress
