My Experience

My career started in a pre-school environment as an apprentice and I quickly found I enjoyed working with older children requiring more specialist support, leading to a role within a special educational needs school, working through pre-school to secondary stages. I then progressed to a learning Support worker role where I had the pleasure of working with children with a range of disabilities, such as PMLD, autism, behaviours that challenge, etc. My desire for further experience led me to mainstream settings where I provided support across a number of different schools, utilising my experience with special needs children into mainstream settings with children who had learning difficulties. I then decided to take a step back from the educational setting to build on my one-on-one experience which brings me to my current role as a nanny/support worker for a home-educated child with autism who is non-verbal with an array of behaviours that challenge. I am now working as Room Lead in a local nursery but believe I am better suited in a Nannying role.
