About Me
Hi there, my name is Gemma and I'm an NVQ level 3 qualified nursery nurse who has a child-minding business in the Cottam area of Preston.
I have a long history of childcare experience in both nurseries and primary schools. I have worked for over 5 years in a pre-school setting and for over 10 years in a local school where I was the level 3 teaching assistant for the reception class. More recently I was the Higher Level Teaching assistant within a year 6 class.
I have gained a full appreciation of the early years curriculum and have significant experience of the Ofsted requirements and regulations.
Most importantly I love working with children and seeing them develop. Our home is fully equipped with a wide range of toys and is safe for children with dedicated areas for play and learning activities.
I can accommodate full time pre-school children (from 4 months)

My son has been with Gemma since September and has settled so well. Gemma has been amazing with him and I feel confident leaving him in her care. She obviously genuinely cares about the children and loves what she does. She is very responsive to his needs and it’s reassuring to have easy communication. We did a few settling in sessions and he loved the environment and being with Gemma and other children. Highly recommended.

Gemma is the most kind and caring childminder we could of asked for. Our daughter has been going here now for nearly a month and she absolutely loves it. She is a lockdown baby so wasn’t just able to go to anyone. She has taken to Gemma and her team so well. They are amazing with her and she is so happy and content when being dropped off. My daughter is only 6 months old and I was so anxious of leaving her with anyone else. Gemma has made me feel so at ease. She is absolutely amazing with her and couldn’t have asked for anyone better. 😊

My little girl has been going to Gemmas for 3 months now and she loves it so much! My little girl grew up mainly through lockdown and had no interaction with children and very little with adults. So we were really worried about how she would settle. Within 2 sessions she loved it and just walked straight in! Gemma is fantastic with her and does lots of activities to keep her and the other children entertained. I couldnt imagine my little one any where else 🙂

Gemma is amazing - she treats my little man like her own and her care and compassion is easy to see. I needed a flexible minder due to my job and Gemma fits that exactly. She’s there when needed and I know my son is safe with no issues when he is there. She lives in a lovely area and has great facilities at her house. We were lucky to find her and I would recommend her to anyone

Gemma is the most genuine person I have ever met when it comes to childcare. You can just see the love she has for the children she cares for. I was so nervous leaving my lockdown baby with anyone else on my return to work, but he absolutely loves it at Gemma's and I felt so reassured. My little boy had settling in sessions initially to ease him into staying a couple of days a week. Even when he wasn't there due to an illness, Gemma messaged to check if he was ok. An absolutely lovely lady xxx

My little boy has recently started at Little Gems. At first he was a little unsettled in the mornings, however, Gemma really helped to comfort and encourage him - and he now walks in eager to start his day! I've already started to notice new things he is picking up by being at Little Gems, which is amazing. Gemma and Sarah are both so friendly and caring towards the children and my boy has really settled with them. We get updates and photos throughout the day and it is just amazing to see our little boy having so much fun and making friends with his peers. It certainly makes being back at work that bit more bearable!

Our little girl has really struggled with meeting new people due to the current COVID situation, but Gemma has gone above and beyond to make sure she feels welcome and to settle in with both her and the rest of the children. We’re happy to know our baby is safe and in excellent hands. We get regular pictures and videos of her throughout the day showing how much fun she’s having. Highly recommended!

I am so grateful to have found Gem. From the very first visit i knew she would be the perfect childminder for my 19 month old little boy. Gem has a fantastic childcare setting in her warm and friendly family home and is such a natural with the little ones. They are always doing fun activities, going on walks and exploring the out doors. I feel completely at ease knowing my little boy is being taken care of by Gem and her fantastic assistant, Sarah. I would definitely recommend.

I am so grateful we found Gemma. Because of the circumstances, my 10m old baby girl had to start on Monday and we only met Gemma the Friday before the start date. I was freaking out cose my baba has never been left with anyone else before because of the lockdown. When we met Gemma she made us feel at ease,very welcomed and made sure to give us all the answers before we even asked the questions 😊. My baby liked her from the moment we met her and 5 min later she was already hugging Gemma and playing arround. Gemma was very kind and did a trial 1h on that Sunday so baba can get to know her and made sure it isn't a shock to her for her first day. She even stopped crying when being left at Gemmas on the second week which was very surprising as baby was very attached to me at the time.We receive pics and updates throughout the day and see what activities they have been doing like walks, swings, trikes, duck feeding, sand pit, cardboard trains etc. My little girl is always happy to see her and we are so grateful to Gemma for taking the best care of our little girl.

My daughter started with Gemma at around ten months. We had only left her with a grandparent before and we were nervous about leaving her. Unnecessary worrying. From her first settling in session she adored Gemma and the other little Gems. She doesn’t like to leave and has made so much progress. Within weeks of starting she was crawling to catch up with the others, something she previously had no interest in doing! She comes home chatty and tired from a day of playing or a trip out.
Even with the current Covid situation I have no fears about her being with Gemma. She has put in every precaution to keep the children safe but still giving them a caring environment. The day’s will still be full of fun and we can’t recommend Little Gems enough.
