My Summary
About Me
**not currently taking new families**
Hello! My name is Emily, I'm 32 years old and I’m from a farm in Somerset - so I’ve grown up making mud pies, climbing trees, hunting for tadpoles and generally having an adventure! I now live in Weston-Super-Mare with my cats Wilson and Winnie, still enjoying the outdoors as well as creative pursuits.
I moved to Bristol to study Textiles, gaining a First Class Honours in 2007, through the years working in Marketing roles, whilst caring for my goddaughter, her triplet siblings, my young cousins, friend's children, babysitting for neighbours and mentoring secondary school children.
At the beginning of 2017 I decided to leave corporate life to focus on my real passions and utilising my natural skills and attributes. My life is now a lovely combination of being a nanny/housekeeper, volunteering for a mental health charity and selling upcycled furniture.
I would describe myself as a naturally personable, nurturing and creative character with a genuine passion towards making a valuable difference. I can offer a warm, calm and initiative driven attitude that creates a thriving home environment; hopefully inspiring the children and thinking one step ahead for the parents.
I have lots of enthusiasm, energy and patience as well as having a total homemaker heart! I geekily love cleaning and tidying as well as cooking lovely, healthy food. I really enjoy the sense of belonging being part of a family, getting stuck in and quickly becoming part of the family.
Additional Info:
- I have a valid driving licence and a car, with 13 years driving experience
- I have a valid DBS check
- I have public liability insurance
- I'm first aid trained
- I'm flexible with hours
My Experience
My experience with children ranges from ages 4 months – 15 years. I’ve spent a lot of time looking after and caring for kids whilst supporting their families, from my friend's children (0-7yrs), my many, many cousins (0-6yrs) as well as local baby-sitting (1-6yrs). I also have experience with secondary school children (11-15yrs) through Somerset Community Foundation where I was a volunteer mentor to a secondary school pupil and I gave annual presentations to kids choosing their GCSE options, this was all part of a Raising Aspirations and Achievements programme set up by the foundation.
Since 2017 I worked in temporary roles to transfer into professional childcare. The first role involved 30 hours as a nanny to four children, aged 14 months, 5 years, 10 years and 12 years, predominantly sole charge with the 1 year old and all four children after school and in the holidays. There were some additional babysitting hours too before this role came to an end in September as Mum had recovered from her back operation. Duties included:
- School run with youngest to take/collect three oldest
- Organising fun and educational indoor and outdoor activities e.g. visits to soft play groups, local parks and city farms
- Creating healthy and appetising meals whilst ensuring food safety for gluten/dairy/soya intolerances and preparing formula milk
- Nappy and clothing changes throughout the day
- Getting children bathed and ready for bed
- Performing light house-keeping duties, errands and grocery shopping
The second role involved sole charge of two children, aged 9 years and 13 years, for around 20 hours per week after school and evening care. This role was temporary help to a single mum recovering from health issues and juggling childcare commitments around running her own business. Duties included:
- School pick up of youngest and transporting home
- Transporting oldest to football, across 3 locations in Bristol every evening each week
- Preparing healthy snacks and dinner for both children
- Communicating with activity leaders and coaches to organise the logistics of the extra-curricular activities
For the last 21 months I have worked with a mother and her four children, aged 7yrs, 10yrs, 11yrs, 13yrs after the terribly sad loss of their father. The role is quite unique as it encompasses many different support aspects; from nanny/housekeeper to PA and support worker. Duties include:
- Managing and coordinating all household tasks and school activities
- Liasing with various professionals and family in order to ensure the family is effectively supported
- Planning how to engage the children and mum in each 'milestone' without their father/husband
- Care of children's emotions through play, creativity, games, reading and talking
- Organising children's and family birthdays, events, occasions etc
- Cooking a healthy meal for minimum of 6 people per evening
