About Me

Hello! :-)

My name is Bianca, and I am a 30-year-old graduate, with a 2:1 bachelor's degree in English Literature with Film Studies.

I am a friendly and enthusiastic individual with a passion for teaching children. After working as a manager for a tuition company in Sutton for almost two years, I recently left as I will start studying for a Primary PGCE in April 2023, at St Mary‘s University.

Recent feedback from some of the children I’ve been tutoring:
“I just get it with you”
“I would have learnt so much more if I’d always been coming to ...”
“You’re the kindest teacher ever!”

I am currently able to offer private tuition for children aged 5-13 in South West London.

I am experienced in teaching English and Maths at primary school level, and have extensive experience preparing children for tests including:
11+ for the Sutton and Kingston schools
4+, 7+ and 11+ entrance exams for SW London schools
Y2 and Y6 SATs

My experience planning and teaching lessons has helped me to develop a fun and engaging teaching style. I get to know each pupil individually, having a full understanding of where they need help, and using examples and materials appropriate to the child so they are engaged throughout. I believe learning should be exciting, and balanced well with worksheets.

Consultations with parents, building a good rapport with the children, using a wide variety of resources, and understanding a variety of learning styles is what helps me to build an individual learning plan that is both successful and enjoyable for each child. We can use sessions to cover new topics, or go over things your child has been struggling to grasp at school. I can also assist with homework.

More about me as a person:

I am thoughtful and caring, and love being creative - whether it's using arts and crafts or baking something up in the kitchen, I'm always up for a challenge. Naturally, I am not sporty, but I love to join in and then sometimes have to remind myself I'm playing against children! As a child, I attended Brownies, Woodcraft Folk and army cadets, I love being outdoors, and I think it's safe to say I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty! I hope to create my own local Brownies group, and this is something I am currently looking into.

Having studied English Literature, naturally I'm a bookworm. I am a child at heart, and love the Roald Dahl books, the Harry Potter collection, Enid Blyton's The Faraway Tree, and Jacqueline Wilson, and have lots of worksheets and activities based on these books. When I am acting more my age, I love writers from the Victorian era including Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy and the Brontes, as well as fiction surrounding World War One and Two, and slavery - not so cheery!

I love going on day trips and having new adventures, including to parks, woods and the seaside. I care a lot about the environment and try to have a positive impact on the world each day. I love animals so much - especially cats.

Thank you for reading - I hope to hear from you soon!

My Experience

I am very lucky to have had the pleasure to work with children in a number of settings over the years.

My previous experience includes working as a sole charge nanny, in a nursery, as a teaching assistant (both in the UK and in Kurdistan, Iraq), volunteering in local children groups, and one-to-one support for children with learning or behavioural needs. I have also worked as a tutor in several tuition centres, and most recently, managed a tuition centre.

I have always loved working with children, and before that was possible, I spent my entire childhood playing teachers with my cousins and little brother, where I made sure I was always the teacher!

My Qualifications

BA - English Literature with Film Studies

A-levels - English Literature, Film Studies, Business Studies

GCSEs - English Literature and Language, Maths, Science, Additional Science, Religious Studies, IT, French, History and Music

I hold a current DBS which was issued in January 2017, and am registered on the update system. Documents can be provided.
