My Summary
About Me
Hi, my name is Shanel,
I am a professional childcare practitioner with extensive experience of working in both nursery and school environments. It has always been my ambition to pursue a career in childcare as I am keen to make a positive difference to the welfare and development of children at this very important learning stage of their lives.
I started my career as a nursery practitioner within a day nursery. During this role, I quickly learnt the importance of children's' individual routines and planning to support their overall learning and development. Building a strong partnership with parents and children is paramount to the welfare and future development of all children. At Miniature Moments, we support your child's learning by observing, taking photos, setting up daily experiences and opportunities focusing primarily on their individual interests, to create a personalised weekly curriculum. As our parents, you are able to access your child's online journey to see what exciting adventures your child has been participating!
To gain more experience with babies, I took a baby room leader role. I thought it was important for me to gain a strong understanding and knowledge of the overall development from three months through to five years. This role opened my eyes to how all children learn and develop at different rates. They all had their own little personalities which showed their different learning styles. As room leader, I mentored staff and shared my knowledge on the importance of planning to meet every child's individual needs through routines, planning and ways of interaction. The essential learning experience for me was to capture every child's miniature moment by writing observations or taking photos, to share their achievements with parents.
I furthered my career by becoming a Deputy Manager in both a Montessori Pre-school and within a fifty place day nursery. I acquired new skills during these position which in hand lent me to mentoring apprentices and newly qualified staff. My level 4 Management qualification supported me in this role. During this position, I spent the majority of my time in the room with the children, interacting, monitoring development, taking them on trips to local parks and to the supermarket. No matter where we went, we always brought learning into the equation in a fun and interactive way e.g recognising numbers in the environment, road safety, climbing up steps and counting the on the slide etc.
At the Montessori Pre-school, I worked in partnership with local schools to ensure the children were ready to make the transition to school (not such a miniature moment.) Understanding the local school requirements allowed me to plan and support children's learning and development further. This was relayed to parents, so they understood expectations and have fun activity ideas to help support their child with this transition at home. e.g. pencil grip games, clothing fastenings toys ect.
After reflecting on my experiences and knowledge in all age groups (three months-five years) I decided I was ready to take the managers role in a 67 place nursery. I was able to use and share all my experiences with my team to ensure all children's needs, safety and well-being were in the forefront of every decision made. I believed and put in notion that children should only learn through play, their interests and parents' requests. All children should be provided with new experiences and opportunities and be allowed to explore them in their own unique
Our mission is to lend a helping hand in supporting children through their miniature moments, allowing us to build a strong foundation for their future.
At the moment we are not intending to take children to and from school/preschool (1setting only).
Thankyou for looking
