About Me

I am currently 29 years old and I am working full time in a nursery for children from birth to 5. I am at the moment working with children ages 3-4. I fully enjoy what I do. I have always had an interest to work with children since I went to college and achieved a level 3 qualifications in childcare. I am a very sociable person and pride myself on my ability to empathise, connect and make friends with others due to my approachable, infectively positive personality. I am a very hard worker and a massive team player who will help anyone who needs me too, turning my hand to many different roles in many different situations.

My Experience

Ladybirds children nursery April 2019 ~ present
Team leader
I am currently working 40 hours a week in a children's day nursery. I currently work in the Pre school room preparing children for school. I often work in other rooms in the nursery too which ages up to 6 weeks to 5 years.

Barnwell Daycare August 2017 – April 2019 Childcare Assistant
I previously worked in a daycare for children aged from birth to 5 years. I was a level one childcare assistant. I worked variable hours during the week that ranges from 8-6. My typical day would include setting up activities for the day ahead using the planning. I would then greet the children as they enter the nursery making sure I do my best to comfort any upset children. I could be doing a range of tasks, it tends to vary each day. Sometimes I will do breakfast for the children or support breakfast, assisting them with their cereal and communicating with them about what they would like. I then do tasks such as morning snack and nappies, then before lunch time I support the children in singing songs and washing their hands ready for lunch. During lunch I sit with the children and make sure I am encouraging independence but at the same time helping them if they need me too. After dinner we will read a story and get sorted for the afternoon session. I also do observations on the children following the EYFS we aim to do four or more a day. I pride myself In being an excellent communicator to the children and I know how much the children like spending time with me. I am also always on hand to help my work colleagues out and always be a team player.
The Wessington Brewers F
ayre April 2014 – August 2017- Soft Play Assistant
I was working at a play area attached to a busy family pub in Sunderland. Last year we got a refurbishment and I was made ‘director of fun’. This role made me head team member of the rest of the play team which means I have to make sure the team are doing what’s expected of them at all times and making sure they are following the standards, keeping the team motivated, on track and ensuring a bond should they have any issues. The play area itself has a number of tables and a party room, this means that every day I am demonstrating a high level of customer service, this ranges from serving on tables to making sure they are 100% satisfied and happy with their service during their visit. A main role of mine was to sign the children into the play area and take any food or drinks orders customers may have. I also ran children’s parties which is a hands on task making sure that the child has an excellent time this includes interacting with the children asking them what they would like for their meal and dessert as well as creating a positive and fun atmosphere, I also personally made the desserts and prepared the children’s’ birthday cake which gives me experience in a kitchen environment as well as being under pressure to complete a task under a small time scale. At the end of the party I communicated with the children about their time at the party whilst giving them the party bags and balloons and asking if they have a good time, at this point I would previously dress up as Brewster Bear. Before my shift begins I would have carried out safety checks around the play area to make sure it is safe and set up for the day. I am a very good team player in my job and I would always be making sure me and everyone I work with is okay and if anyone needs any help.

Ace Playce February 2014 – April 2014 - Soft Play Assistant
I worked at a play area called Ace Playce on a zero hour contract before finding a full time job. During my time here I had several roles including a receptionist role; assisting on the desk communicating with parents about the rules of play in the soft play and signing their children into play. Other roles included serving on the till, putting through food and drink orders and making hot and cold drinks such as lattes and hot chocolates. I really enjoyed this task as it gave me good experience on the till and how to use a machine. I also cleaned tables and did general tasks around the play area such as clearing plates, hovering down, and collecting rubbish and setting tables up. My role was communicating with customers making sure they have a good experience. I worked very well with my team and was always available to give them a helping hand and communicated well with them and my management team.
Ladybird Nursery – October 2013 - Acting nursery nurse
During my time here I worked for two weeks as a work experience, I fully enjoyed this working with children from ages 2-3 my responsibility’s included communicating with the children and making a bond with them such as playing, reading, singing which I fully enjoyed as it give me a good chance to bond with all the children. I also supported the children with their lunch this included sitting with them when they ate and helping them if they needed any support such as help with knife and fork or pouring them some juice. I also helped the children with outside time such as helping them with the outdoor equipment which included a play frame, skipping and any outside games. At the nursery they had pet rabbits in which I supported the children in seeing them and petting them and helping the children learn reasonability. I fully enjoyed my time at the nursery and it give me a good experience of children of this age.

Cheviot Primary School – March 2013 – July 2013 - Acting Teaching Assistant
During my college placement I did 4 months in this setting two days a week where I worked with a year 3 classes so the children were aged between 7-8. During my time here my responsibilities included admin tasks such as laminating, photo copying, making displays and helping the teacher with any other tasks she may needed me to carry out I fully enjoyed doing these tasks as it give me new opportunities to learn new skills which I will continue in day to day life. My other roles included supporting the children one to one in their lessons during the day so this included helping them with their maths and English and I would also get the reasonability of marking the children’s work such as spelling tests which give me a role and a sense of responsibility. I would help the teacher set up for tasks during the day such as arts and crafts and other lessons, The teacher would give me a small group to support each lesson they had which was very enjoyable as I would be able to help the children develop in all of their skills.
Places for children - October 2012 – March 2013 - Acting Nursery Nurse
During my time here I worked with the older children who were up to 5 years. I used to read to the children each day and play games with them and watch them and join in with them when playing with their toys. I also did drawing with the children and took an interest in their activities. During lunch time I would sit with the children whilst they ate their lunch and would pour juice for the children on the table I was looking after, I would also assist the children if they needed any help with their food. On the afternoon the children would go outside and play this would be a time to watch them on their bikes or play outdoor games with the children such as a tag or ball games to build their motor skills up.
Milecastle Primary School - October 2011 – June 2012 - Acting Teaching Assistant
During my time at this school on a placement for my level two childcare course I worked in years 2 and reception. During my time in year two I worked one to one with the children each day helping them in their lessons and supporting them with their work. I also joined in on carpet time helping the children concentrate and making sure that they were joining in on any activities that were happening on the carpet at that time. I also had a reasonability of taking the class in groups to the library on a Thursday where they would get a chance of get a new book for that week. I really enjoyed doing this as it helped me build relationships with the children as well being responsible for the groups of children like making sure they were behaving. At break time I would do yard duty with the other teachers making sure the children were ok and if any were to have an accident make sure they got the correct first aid treatment. I also used to join in playing games with the children and seeing what they were playing. I would also help the teacher out with admin tasks such as photo copying, laminating and assisting in putting up displays.
During my time in the reception class I would again assist the children in things such as carpet time making sure they were all listening and getting involved. I would also help the teaching assistant in putting up displays and cutting and sticking anything that needed to be done. The children would also do outside time most of the day where they would play games and I would join in and make sure they were having fun. Some of the time I would play indoor games such as farm animals or dress up. The children would also take turns to write their name or read a book these are things I would also assist the children in.
