My Summary

My Experience

I have been in childcare since I attended Carshalton College when I was 16 where I qualified in a Level 3 CACHE childcare diploma. As part of my college course, I completed work experience in a variety of childcare settings including a primary school and two day nurseries.

I believe that children learn through play and I love spending my time with children by painting, getting messy, child led role play and singing every nursery rhyme I can think of!

I began working in Kinderland Day nursery after finishing college which I really enjoyed. I carried out observations in a key cared role, planning for the individual child, alongside providing high quality childcare and following routines in the baby and toddler room.

In 2011 I left Kinderland to volunteer in a non profit organisation in Hawaii. I gained allot from this experience. I was teaching children from a homeless shelter how to swim. Also doing a feeding the hungry event twice a week for homeless people. We had opportunities to get to know the community, and help out in their lives.

After coming home from Hawaii, in 2012 I started at Selsdon Park Pre School. I am currently still at this setting part time. I have 4 key children who I have an excellent bond with. I work closely with the children and parents to make sure they are happy and the children are on track with their development.

In January 2015 I started at The GingerbreadHouse Day Nursery. I am in charge of toddler room taking responsibility for my team. Between October 2016 - September 2017, I was also a 1 to 1 support with a child who has Down's Syndrome. Working alongside outside agencies and in partnership with this child's parents. Together we set individual targets for this child who is
happily developing extremely well and who I have a wonderful bond with.
I now have six key children for which I have an excellent bond together with their parents. I provided my children with the next step
for each area of learning to maintain their development within the EYFS. I
have a number of roles in my nursery that include:
• Providing excellent standards of care for children and parents
• Working with parents to support their child's development
• Following and implement the policies and procedures set out by
the nursery
• Helping to settle in new children
• Involved in organising and helping with activities for the children such as
arts; cooking; drama; outdoor activities and outings
• Helping the children build their confidence, independence and self-
esteem
• Building and maintaining relationships with children, parents and
colleagues
Supporting and delegating staff to ensure good running of the room
