About Me

Enthusiastic, energetic and caring nanny with a special interest in outdoor play, cooking, and arts and crafts. I have experience working as a nanny for twins (ages 1-2) and siblings (1&4), in a local, council run nursery, and also as 1 to 1 support for children with special educational needs. I believe the most important aspect of my job is helping children learn how to communicate effectively, so that even from a young age they're able to express their desires, and to understand what's going on around them. This allows for more of a co-operative relationship with children. One of the ways I achieve this is with the use of Makaton, a language programme that uses signs and symbols along with speech to help reinforce ideas. It is especially helpful for babies/toddlers and children with SEN. I have done courses in Makaton up to level 2 at present.

Aside from my experience and qualifications, I also enjoy reading books on child development, some of the books I've read are; How to Talk so Little Kids will Listen, Whole Brain Child, No Drama Discipline, The Montessori Toddler, Montessori Toddler Disciplines, The Marshmallow Test, Brain Rules for Baby, Cribsheet. My favourite is How to Talk so Little Kids will Listen, which along with Whole Brain Child and No Drama Discipline promote an empathy first approach, using connection and redirection, and allowing children as much control over their lives as possible, and never using punishment.

More practically, I love cooking, so I am more than happy to cook for children, for the whole family, or even do meal prep. I'm also happy tidying, cleaning, and doing other household chores, like washing.
