My Summary
About Me
An Ofsted graded “outstanding” setting. I have been in childcare in Rudgwick for over 20 years. My Husband works alongside me and is a fully qualified Level 3 Forest School Leader allowing us to offer something truly uniqe to the children that we look after.
Between us we have 5 children and a growing collection of pets.
I love looking after children and seeing them grow and develop, some children have been with me for over a decade. I employ like minded people to work with me and together we offer a wealth of experience.
My Experience
I look after babies from 3 months old right up until they go to secondary school.
My husband gave up his job in the ambulance service (after 9 years) to join me working full time. I am a smallholder with chickens, ducks and goats. We have our own woodland which is a short drive from the setting, we visit here as well as other woodland areas around our area and we also do a lot of forest school activities on site in Rudgwick.
We have full planning permission to run a forest school out of our woodland.
We spend as much time outside as we can (weather permitting).
Forest School offers the children an opportunity to build important physical, social, cognitive and life skills to pave the way for academic learning throughout their lives. This gives children a chance to do what they really excel in which is learning through their play.
We have over 60 pets from furries to scales and offer children, who perhaps would not always have, the opportunity to be involved in the day to day care of pets.
We love the outdoors and we love animals too, so a lot of our work with the children is centered around those two things. The children learn to have a respect and love for nature.
Being educated in a peaceful environment allows the children to learn when they are most open and receptive to learning. We help children to foster a connection to nature and wildlife.
My Qualifications
I am qualified to offer the Early Years Funding to 2, 3 and 4 year olds.
I hold an NVQ Level 3 in CCLD (Childcare Learning and Development) and undergo regular training (as do all of my staff).
I hold a PAT Mark which is given by parents in West Sussex for child providers who offer a setting suitable for children with disabilities.

🔺Broad spectrum of healthy foods provided for all meals
🔸Great communication with parents through newsletters, care diaries online, one-to-one conversations and through an app for pictures, videos and updates

◾️Working as a team with parents to provide the best upbringing for the children for example how to tackle potty training or being aware of speech development issues.
My daughter is everything she is, not only from my parenting, but because of the input, care and devotion provided by a home away from home, Jack and Gill’s. The team there are definitely an extension of our family and my daughter is forever telling me how much she loves each and every one of them. If I could give a recommendation to anyone about anything in the world, it would be Jack and Gill’s.

Thank you Jasmine! We will treasure your words as they means so much to us and we also love having your family as part of our extended family!
Where do I start?
My daughter went to Tonia from 13 months to starting school last year, my son from 5 months, and he is just about to leave to start school in September - the end of an era.
Both children received their EY funding in this setting - I didn't see the point in taking them out to nursery as they were mixing with a number of other children of varying ages, so were socialising well, being careful with babies, but able to be adventurous with older children; able to undertake activities to their own ability; and my son in particular, who is 4 at the end of July, is already reading simple words and blending phonics, so I have no doubt that his transition into school, even at the youngest end of his school year, will be as comfortable as his sister's, who was one of the oldest (and SO ready!)
A potential concern was that they would know no-one at school, as Tonia is about 5 miles from our home, but they are confident enough to make new friends easily (not something I find easy, so credit to Tonia).
People are constantly commenting on how well-behaved and courteous my children are (although they have their moments) and I have to again give credit to Tonia and her team, as I don't recall teaching this myself!
Tonia has been very supportive to me as a mother, and is much-loved by both my children, as are her team of assistants. They all know each of the children well, and give them individual attention as well as the freedom to explore and find out for themselves (and they do a sterling job of keeping up with my son's stream of superheroes and invented power ranger toy names).
I cannot praise Tonia highly enough, and would (and regularly do) thoroughly recommend anyone to get in touch with her if looking for childcare.

I have been using Jack and Gill for nearly 5 years, my youngest recently joined 5 months ago and is enjoying it as much as his sister did when she first started.
I initially chose Jack and Gill based on the setting that the children were in and how much fresh air and outdoors time they got. The children seem to be out and about everyday and are certainly benefiting from the gorgeous countryside that they are near to.
When my eldest turned 3, I was more than happy for her to remain at J&G instead of moving to a preschool as I felt she would be happier in the environment she had been in for the previous 2 years. The Early years education she received was excellent and set her up ready for starting school in September 2013.
All in all I cannot recommend Jack and Gill highly enough, all the staff are friendly and they build amazing relationships with the children they care for. Both my children look forward to going there, and to be able to leave your children with someone you are happy with, and that they are happy with, is the best you can ask for.
