Hello, My name is Bella, I am 24 years old and I live in Edinburgh. I am a kind, caring, outgoing individual who loves making people smile. I graduated from University in 2021 with a degree in Politics and International Relations from the University of Dundee. After graduating from University, I moved to Edinburgh where I worked as a mental health support worker and volunteered in my spare time at a food bank. I then moved to Greece for 9 months working as a youth engagement manager for Lifting Hands International at their community center which provides psycho-social support to the refugee and asylum-seeking population in Northern Greece. I have a genuine passion for helping people and pride myself on my positive outlook and hardworking approach to life. I love looking after children and helping them develop their self-esteem and confidence. As an assistant manager of a child-friendly space, I understood the importance of allowing children to be creative and develop their motor and sensory skills through a range of crafts. I am passionate about helping children develop their mental health and emotional well-being. I was a mental health support worker in my previous job so understand the importance of providing a non-judgmental listening ear and creating a safe space. I love the outdoors and exercise and have completed a range of grades in ballet, jazz and contemporary dance. I love using these skills to help children have a creative outlet and explore their passions.
My Experience
I have recently just returned from working for Lifting Hands International at their community centre in Northern Greece. During my time in Greece, I was the youth engagement manager, this role included working closely with the community volunteers to create and refine outdoor activities for children and young adults (5-18 years old). I provided psycho-social support, whilst facilitating a safe and welcoming space for every child. I created a social-emotional development programme whereby every week we did trauma-informed crafts to help children build their self-esteem and confidence. I have also spent time as an activity language leader/children's welfare staff for the company Move Languages Ahead (June-September 2019). During this role, I taught Italian, Spanish and Russian children the English language, led cultural activities and excursions and planned and prepared lesson plans, risk assessments and trips. Whilst I lived in Edinburgh (June 2021-June 2022) I volunteered on an ad-hoc basis for a charity in Edinburgh supporting vulnerable families by providing child care, helping with homework, cooking dinner and playing with them.
My Qualifications
I hold a degree in Politics and International Relations, and during my undergraduate studies, I wrote my dissertation on the social, economic, and political barriers to gender inequality in education, for which I received an A grade. Since graduating from university, I have been dedicated to continuous improvement in my knowledge and skills, particularly to prepare
myself for a career in the third sector. I have completed a trauma-informed care and mental health, suicide training course with Link Living. Furthermore, I have undertaken various courses offered by the Pandora Project, including positive and assertive communication, trauma and adversity in young people and adolescents, and gender-based violence. Additionally, I have received first aid training from Lifting Hands International.
My Availability
at the moment full time- I start a new job on the 8th of January and will be available in the evenings on weekdays and full days on weekends.
