My Experience
In 2018/19 I spent 8 months in Guatemala, Central America where I volunteered as a Special Needs teacher of children and young adults in a school specifically for children and young people who have Down Syndrome, Autism and other learning difficulties. I led therapy classes for children from the ages of 16 days-6 years old and assisted with Physical Therapy classes. I also taught English to the teachers.On returning from Guatemala I looked after a young boy with Cerebral Palsy over two summers. We participated in many educational and fun activities and I enjoyed the one-to-one individualised teaching where I could provide experiences specifically tailored to his interests, needs and abilities.
I have qualified as a special needs teacher and I have just come back from Guatemala working as their Early Years lead in a special needs school.
I regularly babysit for children during the day or night.
