My Summary
About Me
Hello! I am a cheery, caring and very experienced 28-year-old with a passion for looking after children and ensuring their time with me is safe, creative and fun. I have 10 years of experience with all ages. Available weekdays and evening.
My Experience
I have cared for children from newborn age to 12 years; multiple children at once - daytime, evenings, overnights and weekends. School pick-ups, taking children to do activities and to play groups. Experienced cook and competent with bathing and bed times. I trained as an actor-pedagogue with Licketyspit Children's Theatre Company, facilitating play sessions with families across Glasgow, working with the Refugee Council and providing training for Women's Aid workers. For the last two years I have been working as a childminder for a baby in Dublin and going on tour with her mother to provide childcare. Alongside this I have worked as a substitute Special Needs Assistant in a primary school, working with a range of children with additional needs. I am making my way as a musician alongside providing childcare. I'm passionate about children and ensuring that they have a safe and caring time with me, full of creativity and fun, with minimal screen time! I am living in the N1 area of Islington and I'm currently available full time for the months of August, September and October. Open to travel and overnights.
Childcare references available upon request.
Special Needs Assistant Reference:
'Iona worked in all classes from Junior Infants – 6th class and also worked in our Assisted Learning Class for children with autism. Iona is an SNA of exceptional talent and dedication. She has a genuine concern for each child in her care. This comes from a deep dedication and respect for the children and a real flair for the job. Her consistently calm personality and constant smile made her the SNA every parent would love to have supporting their child and every staff member loves to work with. As a Principal I have found Iona to be courteous, respectful, helpful, conscientious, sincere and willing to take on extra responsibilities and duties beyond her position.
Iona is very creative. I have observed her once giving a drama lesson to 1st class and on another occasion, playing the harp for 75 Junior Infants.' (Principle Teacher)
My Qualifications
I have a PVG check and have completed my child potection stage one training. I have a first class degree in English literature from Glasgow University and I'm very adapt at telling stories and facilitating creative activities. Iona looked after my two children (then aged 4.5 and 6) while we were living in Glasgow for around a year, and over that time not only did she build an incredible bond between them, she also became a friend who, five years on, I'm still in touch with. Her responsibilities were varied, but tended to be pick up kids from school, take them to the park / library and then bring them home. Often she made them tea on returning to the house. She has all the qualities you would like someone who looks after your children to possess: huge kindness, a sense of true adventure, deep creativity, a brilliant sense of humour and the ability to connect with kids. She's also all the things you, as a parent, need in a childminder too: responsible, responsive, beyond capable and always having excellent chat. Of all the childminders that we've ever used, Iona stands head and shoulders above the rest. I can't recommend her highly enough. She's a brilliant human.
Iona was one of our first childminders and she proved to be the best so far -- even after 6 years of others who have taken her place after she moved away from Glashow! She will care for your child in the best ways possible. But that's only the beginning: she is a musician, a poet, an educator, and a ray of sunshine no matter the weather. Our kids love her and as they've grown up have fond memories of their time together. If you have a chance to hire Iona consider yourself lucky, and if you can convince her to move back to Glasgow we'd be very grateful.
