My Summary
About Me
My name is Virginia and I am from Cádiz, in the south of Spain.
I am a person with multiple interests and passions. I could spend hours and days just reading with a cup of tea. Literature is one of my great weak spots: I want to read it all and this is something that I can communicate with great energy and joy.
That is something that would help me to introduce the student to the wonderful world of words. Books are a fantastic bridge to learning other languages and I know lots of examples that might be interesting for children. Also, I am a keen athlete and I believe I could even try to implement sports in some sessions to develop a transversal curriculum.
Last but not least my other great passion is arts but to be more specific, the visual media. I studied media communication and ended up working at one of the biggest studios in Europe because of my love for photography and films. I can speak of many uses of the visual arts but the most evident is how I can use them to connect with the children's interests and in that way also teach them about Spanish/Latin American culture.
My Experience
Known for being a friendly, conscientious worker, no matter how daunting the circumstances, I have received positive feedback from those whom I have worked with and have been promoted on several occasions, moving from Teaching Assistant to Outreach specialist to Class Teacher in 1 year. I always aim to exceed expectations and I have been in both mainstream school settings and special education environments throughout all the years I have worked in the UK.
Upon completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Media Studies, I lived in Bulgaria for a year and worked as a photography technician for the cinematography company, Nu Boyana Films Studios, as well as teaching photography in a secondary school in Granada. With a double Masters Degree (MA) in Education and Latin American Studies, I have travelled and worked in companies throughout Europe.
Prior to becoming a Teaching Assistant for Queensmill School, I worked as an au pair for six months and a nanny for two years which provided me with a wealth of experience for dealing with learning difficulties and conditions such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia and trauma. I have always been an empathetic person, working closely with students and parents to provide the best services possible and I naturally am very assertive and aim to take all factors into consideration when making decisions, especially regarding children and their parents. I have worked with 3 mainstream schools, leading and supporting other working professionals on how to cope and manage in the field of special education as an Outreach Specialist. Additionally to this, I have worked very closely with SENCO, providing information to parents and teachers, completing necessary paperwork, co-ordinating school visits and organising transitions.
Regarding my personal skills, I would like to emphasize that I am a very organized person who likes to work in a team, as I think that we all have something to contribute. In addition, by working in the audiovisual field I have learnt the importance of intuition and flexibility since you often have to adapt to unforeseen events, and therefore I consider myself a very decisive person.
Finally, it should be noted that I love to propose innovative ideas to connect with children, using every opportunity to create new activities to promote and develop their skills in different areas and also have a great time together.
