My Summary
About Me
Hi there! I am a unique tutor and mentor providing compassionate and fun teaching and mindset coaching for children and young people from year 1 to year 11, through individualised sessions based around the particular needs and interests of your child.
I help them establish strong foundations to build their confidence, develop emotional intelligence and social skills, and learn strategies that work for them, as well as any curriculum focus, test preparation or extra challenge/focused academic support needed.
I use a whole-child, restorative, and child-led approach to learning so focus on knowing each child individually and empowering them to understand themselves and how their brain learns best, rather than on specific academic targets. I love to help them find solutions to break through any barriers to learning, and see them rise into embracing their own abilities, gifts and passions.
I specialise in supporting ALL neurodiversity and am passionate about helping children and young people love their diverse brains! I use the knowledge I have gained from my own life experiences and brain differences/neurodivergence (ADHD) to empower them to grow and succeed in their goals, and embrace who they are.
I am available for online sessions using Bitpaper and Zoom/Google meet (or platforms of your choice) AND/OR in person 1:1 or in groups as required (at your home, my home in Hazel grove, or at my second base in Cheadle Hulme)
My Experience
I am a fully qualified and DBS checked teacher, with 10 years classroom teaching experience in both secondary and primary schools. Initially I started out as a Modern foreign languages teacher in secondary schools, and can support language learning up to GCSE in French, Japanese and German. I provide fun and engaging language lessons including plenty of cultural exploration, which my students love. particularly Japanese! I often use my pastoral experience and training in Learning to Learn and study skills to support and mentor GCSE students across a range of subjects, focusing on ways to adapt best to their own strengths and areas of challenge to get the most out of their school experience, however difficult it may feel currently. I am adept at problem solving and finding creative solutions for neurodivergent brains to achieve success in the classroom and beyond.
My most recent classroom teaching experience was as a primary class teacher for 3 years, mostly in KS2, followed by a valuable range of experience after becoming a parent myself, teaching in every year from Nursery and Early years right up to Year 6 as an internal cover and intervention teacher. I am a highly adaptable teacher with a fantastic range of skills, which makes me ideal for tutoring a variety of ages and abilities. I have specialist knowledge in English language, Business studies, and Modern Languages, as well as in ADHD and other neurodiversity, and have a passion for writing, particularly poetry, which I love to share with my students, and bring out their inner poet!
