My Summary
About Me
I’m a Teaching assistant/ nursery Teacher with over 7 years of experience working with children, from 2 years up to 11 years old. I have worked as a teaching assistant, Nursery Teacher and play leader. I am eager to apply for the position of a teaching assistant because I believe I have the key skills and knowledge to support teaching and learning within a primary classroom and I found my experience as a teaching assistant has been the most rewarding.
I have planned nursery activities to help children’s developmental progression ensuring that activities are accessible to the children and focus on the key areas they need to develop to ensure they progress.
Part of my experience has included teaching basic life skills such as learning to count to 10, days of the week and gross and fine motor skills to enable the children to function socially at a level appropriate for their age.
I have conducted 2-year checks for children, which involve assessing their development in areas such as personal, social, and emotional development. I use trackers to monitor and analyse the children's progress through the Early Years Foundation Stage. I also observe and record children reaching milestones or facing challenges, capturing "wow" moments for the school and parents to see. Additionally, I have received training in Read, Write, Inc and have utilised this training to support small group phonics work, helping children make progress in phonics.
I have a good understanding of the Primary National curriculum and early year’s foundation stage and how it is structured to ensure children deepen their understanding of topics throughout primary education. I also have experience working with SEND children from the early ages of 4 years. This has often involved working one to one to support children who may be struggling with some aspect of their education whether social, emotional or academic.
I have worked in early years, key stage one and key stage 2 so I have a broad knowledge of the requirements for teaching and learning across a range of year groups. I have developed a range of teaching strategies over the last seven years which include- promoting positive behaviour and supporting children who may display more challenging behaviour in order to ensure the children reach their full potential. I have worked with children who do not have English as a first language, ensuring that the use of visuals and other learning techniques fully supports their progress. My most experience working through primary school I have worked with 3 children on a one to one basis; all with very different needs such as ASD and behavioural needs. I have worked using their EHCPs, behaviour support plans and with other professionals to ensure the children can access learning at an appropriate level which will ensure they make progress. I have also covered lessons, ,supported guided reading, and carried out interventions as required.
The children I currently work with are on the ASD spectrum and require support with their learning, emotional and sensory needs such as sensory breaks, using visual timetables and doing check-ins.
I make sure that I keep parents updated about their child’s school day, ensuring they are aware of any achievements their child has made that day or if anything negative has happened so that they can monitor and support their child after school.
In previous teaching assistant roles, my daily tasks include encouraging students, assisting with learning, providing support to class teachers, maths and English interventions, ensuring reading records are up to date, putting displays up and administration work such as photocopying etc. I have undertaken extracurricular work such as being breakfast and after school club leader. I have also completed training courses including; first aid, safeguarding, health and safety and awareness of FGM.
I am kind, friendly, passionate about supporting children and have a lot of experience working with children. I am motivated and can use my own initiative but I am also aware of my role as part of a team and how important it is to communicate with colleagues and share ideas.
I am open to improving myself and progressing in my career and I would love to have the opportunity to develop my career in your school. Thank you for considering my application.
