You may not have heard of Magic Dragon Preschool, but we are a well-established, friendly, nurturing and child-centered local preschool situated off Bishop Road/Kings Drive in BS7. We are located in a quiet area with ample bike and car parking for easy drop off and collection. Our setting has a fantastic environment consisting of two very large halls and two large gardens situated away from busy roads.
We welcome children at any point during the year once they turn two and a half years old. This enables us to offer families an individualised settling-in plan and time to build up relationships with our children and meet their needs. We have a high staff to child ratio allowing us to really get to know our children, follow their interests and plan for stimulating and purposeful play. Our aim is for every child to grow into a curious, kind, resilient, independent and happy child.
We offer very flexible attendance on Mondays to Thursdays from 9-1pm during term time, we have funded two year old places, funding for FEEE of up to 15 free hours per week and we accept childcare vouchers.
We provide a safe and unique learning environment that inspires our children to play, explore and grow.
PLAY: We believe in the power of play, nurturing children's little hands and big hearts and minds. We provide a wide range of activities and experiences and we follow children's ideas and interests to help them develop.
EXPLORE: The children enjoy playing and exploring both inside and out come rain or shine. Throughout the year, we explore our local community and festivals through trips and inviting in visitors.
GROW: Our aim is to enable everyone to grow into curious, kind, resilient, independent and happy children.
Above all, our long-standing, experienced and highly qualified staff team go above and beyond to ensure that each and every child is nurtured and provided with the best early education possible.

“Magic Dragon Preschool is everything I wished for and more! The staff are a knowledgeable dream team who truly understand how children thrive. My son runs in every time, so excited that he forgets to say bye. The pandemic hasn’t got in the way of staff making sure children settle in smoothly. With COVID restrictions we have only been able to settle our children in the garden but this has been encouraged for as long and as often as needed. The ‘Having Fun at Home’ booklet* they produced in response to lockdown, the activity packs available for borrowing and the booklet with pictures of the staff and key info sent by post to each child meant that the children were able to start their ‘settling in’ long before term started. Communication has been outstanding and the weekly newsletter and daily social media updates have enabled me to talk to my son about all the things he has been up to which has helped build our home-school connection. Our Fees
- Childcare from £18.75 per morning
Registration Fee and Fees:
A £40 non-refundable fee is payable when submitting our registration form.
Fees are calculated on a termly basis and payable in advance. You will receive an invoice three times a year. You will be charged even if your child is absent.
We charge £6.25 an hour.
Financial support:
There are different types of financial support you may be eligible to receive to help you with the cost of childcare. The type of help you can receive will depend on your individual circumstances.
All children attending Magic Dragon are currently eligible for the Early Education Entitlement funding of up to 15 hours per week from the January, April or September after their 3rd birthday. You will receive the paperwork when you start at our preschool. This is subject to regular review. If you feel you may be eligible for additional hours, you can find out more online.
Childcare Vouchers:
We accept Childcare vouchers, a government scheme operated through employers to allow you to pay for childcare from your pre-tax salary. An amount is deducted from your salary at source and paid directly to your childcare provider.
For those paying fees in full, we charge £6.25 per hour.

Magic Dragon is such a wonderful pre-school and I feel so lucky that we found it for our 2 children. My daughter attended and my son is now there and we've had a fantastic experience both times. The staff are all so nurturing and caring and most of them have had children that attended the pre-school themselves. They really make an effort to make each child feel welcome and involved and get to know them. There always seems to be great range of activities set up and there are different things each day that really engage the children. They also have a lovely garden and the children get to spend plenty of time out there every day.

Thank you for a lovely review. It is great to hear that you have had a ‘fantastic experience’ at Magic Dragon Preschool.
My daughter attends Magic Dragon Preschool and enjoys it more than any other nursery she has been to. Having recently moved to the area the staff and parents were very welcoming and it really feels like a little community.
My daughter often comes home with something she has made, something she has painted or planted and I feel so happy and confident that she is not only being well looked after but that she is growing in confidence, making new friends and learning how to accomplish new skills.
We are so lucky to have found it.

Thank you for some great feedback. Your daughter is growing in confidence, making new friends and learning how to accomplish new skills and we are happy to hear you are happy as well.
Magic Dragon Pre School is like a big family full of lovely people! We have been blown away by the lengths the team have gone to to get to know our little boy in a mere matter of weeks. He was so nervous to begin with but his key person went the extra mile to think each day of something that would really engage and settle him upon arrival.
The welcome each morning is just the most heartwarming moment as even in this otherwise impersonal and strange time, a member of the team sees you pass the window and pops round to welcome you at the door, which makes the children and parents feel really special and loved. At the end of the morning our son skips out and all the way home just bursting with all the wonderful things he has done.
Nothing is too much trouble for the lovely staff, who follow up even the most passing query with thought and care.
Pre schools and nurseries are all challenged for outdoor space in a city, but the team here have really made the most of two fabulous garden areas which the children use for play and exploring every day.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Magic Dragon to any family looking for a nurturing, personal, caring and fun pre school where the children and their interests are at the very heart.

I have found this preschool to be exceptional. I have several years experience working with pre-school children in various settings, and looked round a number to find exactly what I was looking for. Magic Dragon most definitely has that extra touch of 'Magic' that I was after. The staff are wonderful and knowledgeable and go the extra mile - really caring about my daughter's social and emotional development, as well as learning new skills. Although she's very sociable, I was worried about her settling in after having attended no toddler classes or groups since March - I needn't have worried! The staff were so kind and she was settled by her second session. I asked her in the evening if anything made her happy today and she said: "going to preschool makes me happy and excited!" What more could a parent want?!

I say this as a parent and as an early years teacher with 10 years experience in early years settings in London and Bristol- that I honestly never expected to have found a more perfect setting for my son. This special place is tucked away off King’s Drive and I am so grateful to my friend Sarah who told me about it. I had no idea the setting was there. When I visited I had no doubt it was the best setting for my children and I leave my son there 4 days a week in absolute confidence that all his needs will be met with expertise and brilliance! The staff are a dream team who incorporate all the best wisdom of child development and educational philosophies to meet the children’s needs that are in their care. The communication and parent links are second to none. I feel extremely lucky. Check it out and see for yourself. You won’t regret it. Will be the best decision you make.
