My Summary

My Experience

(Starting from most recent), YMCA pre school in Woodhatch. I was there for almost two years. I was a key worker for 10 children, which means I was in charge of recording the children's progress and communicating with their parents. If any of "my" children had a problem they would come to me and I would help them sort out anything that is troubling them to and make them happy again.

I have been working with a family who had an 8 month baby daughter in Redhill. I worked 2 days a week with them. Mum was still breastfeeding and working from home so that she could be available for milk time. Gradually between Mum and I we weaned the baby onto formula, so Mum had more time to concentrate on her work and also freed me up so I could take the little one out to the park, soft play centers and lots of cuddles/stories and free play at home.

The job before this, I was with for 15 months, finishing in March '20, (due to Covid 19). The children were 19 months and 4 years old when I started with them. I took the youngest child to many playgroups, visits out, play dates and when at home I organized lots of art and craft activities. I collected the older child from school, gave them dinner and entertained them until their mum came home.

I worked at a local private school for 17 years, working in all year groups apart from Year 6. In this time I did some 1 to 1 and small group sessions to help those who needed a little more support. The last 2 years working there I was working in the Prep section of the school, which is my preferred age group in a school setting.

I worked at The Hokey Cokey Club, which is Holmesdale Schools after school club for over a year.

For the last year 2 years of living and working in Oslo I worked in a kindergarten which was attached to a school. Here I spoke mainly Norwegian all day. As school children don't officially start school until they are 6 years old in Norway, we were mainly playing games, puzzles, drawing, painting, doing art and craft activities. And lots of playing outside, even in -10 degrees! In the winter we would often go in a coach to have a day out sledging..... Great fun!!

In Norway I worked with many families with children ranging from 8 months to 10 years old. I did the school drop offs and pick ups and cleaned and tidied up the house whilst the children were at pre school or school. Occasionally I looked after 2 families at a time, just for a few hours here and there. For a year I looked after 3 little boys aged 2 years old in a child minding type setting. Interesting times potty training! I met up with other nanny friends and we would take our children out to visits to parks, playgrounds, to the beach and to each others houses so the children got a good mixture of experiences. Plus lots of art and craft activities at home too.
