About Me

Hello, I'm Sophie!

I'm a kind, dependable, and optimistic individual passionate about working with children and supporting their emotional and educational needs.

Spending time outdoors and connecting with nature is a top priority for me, and as I believe children thrive outdoors, I'll happily take your little ones on trips to farms, parks, forests, petting zoos and so on.

In my free time, I enjoy foraging and tending to my allotment, which I can happily incorporate into the day to foster their connection to the earth and understanding of how food grows - previous little ones have loved going there!

For indoor activities, I like to encourage creativity through arts and crafts, particularly seasonal crafts using items they've collected during nature walks. Role-playing, drawing, baking, cooking, playgroups or playdates are also wonderful options on a rainy day.

I will adapt to your family's parenting techniques, but in most cases that involves a gentle-based approach to engaging and communicating with children.

With a background in Ayurvedic health, I am open to integrating this knowledge into your family's lifestyle if it aligns with your interests.

I've lived abroad for 5 years therefore I'm comfortable adapting to new cultures and believe having cultural awareness is greatly important.

Feel free to reach out, as I am eager to learn more about your family and determine if we would be a good fit for each other :)

My Experience

I have a diverse and varied background in both childcare and education. Throughout my career, I have engaged with children across a wide age spectrum, from infants as young as 10 months to teenagers up to 16 years old, including those with special educational requirements.

In my early twenties, I had a passion for travel that I combined with volunteering experiences alongside families. I worked as an au pair in Sweden, caring for two girls aged 7 and 9, and later took care of a 10-month-old in Australia. My journey also led me to Thailand, where I looked after a sweet 2-year-old. Throughout my time with these families, I focused on preparing nutritious meals, organising outings, and engaging the children in fun activities that fostered their growth and development.

My adventures continued, and I settled in Vietnam for three years, where I immersed myself in teaching English as a foreign language across various environments. A significant portion of my experience was with ILA, the largest English language school in the country, whilst also privately tutoring children after classes. I also had the chance to work in a Steiner kindergarten, a setting that I loved to be in as it promoted a unique and beautiful teaching methodology.

Upon returning to the UK, I took on a position as a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant in various primary schools around Bristol. My primary responsibility was within the Resource Base at Charborough Road, where I worked closely with an 8-year-old girl diagnosed with autism. The dynamics of the classroom required me to assist not only her but also the other students, addressing challenging behaviours and accommodating a diverse array of learning needs.

Over the past four years, I have dedicated myself to working as a sole-care nanny, providing support to various families with differing needs.

I have had the pleasure of assisting two families with their 18-month-old children during the crucial transition period before they entered nursery. Our time together was filled with joy and exploration, engaging in activities such as playgroups, park outings, visits to my allotment, gymnastics, trips to the farm, and on rainy days, we enjoyed the wonders of Aerospace and the museum.

My most recent role was particularly unique and fulfilling as I supported a family with their remarkable 8-year-old son while he recovered from cancer treatment.
This experience required me to adapt quickly, even undergoing medical training to ensure I could administer essential medications (using a Hickman line and an Epipen).
However, the most important part of working with him was learning all of his cuddly toys by heart with my eyes closed!
It has been so incredible to see his progress, and I am thrilled that he is now well enough to return to school.

We couldn't thank Sophie enough for helping us out with childcare over the summer holidays. She was amazing and so supportive with our 2 and a half year old daughter and we all loved having her around. She was really caring, fun and took our daughter to the park and on swings and always sent me photos and messages keeping us updated. I couldn't recommend Sophie more highly if you want someone to look after your children.

It was an absolute joy to have Sophie looking after my toddler for over 6 months. She has such a warm and gentle energy, my son quickly built a strong bond with her, and I felt really supported by her too.
Very reliable and professional in her manner, she is also intuitive in her relationship with children, helping to continue the gentle parenting ideals I have been working towards.
I would highly recommend Sophie as a nanny or babysitter, she brings such a kind, calm energy to the house.
I can't thank you enough for getting us through some really tough times Sophie!

Sophie has been with us for over a year. She joined us when our daughter was 18months old and has seen us through teething, first words, dropping naps, colours and first art-works(!!), early counting, fairy-cake-baking, early potty training and more.

Our daughter has benefitted hugely from the patient love, care and nurturing she has received from Sophie. Extremely reliable and consistent, we have relied on Sophie more than she will ever know!

Holding gentle boundaries and supporting our daughter’s learning through creative play and daily adventures, Sophie has influenced her language development and interpersonal skills that I don’t think she would have in another setting, or without the relationship she has with Sophie.

Our daughter speaks her own mind and when I asked her how she feels about Sophie, she said: “Fifi is my best friend”. Says it all doesn’t it?
