My Summary
Ofsted Rated Outstanding (June 2023)
About Me
I’m Shelley, an Ofsted registered nanny who is relocating to Aylesford, Kent on 27th June 2024. I was rated Ofsted Outstanding in June 2023 in London, where I was previously childminding three children aged 0-5. I live with my teacher husband and two boys, who attend a primary school in Maidstone and I am looking for the right family to be their reliable nanny.
I take the children I look after out and about at least once a day - to playgroups with large outdoor spaces, local parks for scavenger hunts, or ponds to feed the ducks. I believe children should go outdoors daily in the fresh air and explore wide open spaces freely. This helps build up their confidence and is part of a well-rounded development, even if it means putting on wellies and wet gear and going in the back garden, or puddle jumping at a local park.
I do a fun, once-weekly outings to educational places such as the zoo, farm, museums, soft plays or nature reserves. I have my own car with clean driving record and insurance that covers me carrying other people’s children, and I possess a selection of appropriately sized car seats.
I believe all children are precious gifts and I treat the children in my care as though they're my own. My aim is to provide a safe, warm and friendly environment where the children can develop vital skills through fun activities either in their own family home or my family home. I am extremely loving and caring; everything I do is completely centred around your child’s needs and interests.
The babies and children I look after never get bored of playing with the same activities as I have an extensive selection of toys and resources, for all ages that I tap into regularly and I am happy to bring them weekly to the child’s family home where I am working. I rotate my resources, plan themes and prepare activities so that the interests of the child are catered for and their minds are challenged.
I offer a mixture of adult-led and child-initiated play which can be adapted to suit babies, toddlers and pre-school children. I build learning into everyday activities such as cooking and going to the shops. We do lots of art and craft activities including painting, finger painting, junk modelling, collage work, play dough and cutting. We dance, we sing, do music and movement, imaginative play, water, sand, sensory exploration, number rhymes and pretend play. We take frequent trips to the library so your child can bring home new books.
Once your child is weaned, I prepare most of your child’s meals (during naptime if I can, so it doesn't take any time away from your child). I can adapt to all ages, allergies, food intolerances or special diets. I hold a Level 2 professional Certificate in Food and Hygiene, so rest assured the food is healthy, nutritious and delicious, as well as stored and re-heated safely.
I'm a former professional musician trained in violin and piano and performed in a popular band while I was abroad, in the Philippines, called Imago. I played violin in TV adverts and produced a set of phonics learning CD's for elementary-aged children. I was musical director for a foreign film (Hubad Sa Ilalim Ng Buan) nominated for Best Music Scoring at the Pinakamahusay na Musika awards as well as a Silver Screen Award at the Singapore Film Festival.
I'm England born and raised, and come from a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic background and have lived in London and Kent (England), California (USA), and Manila (Philippines). I'm a diverse mix of all my three cultures and welcome children from all cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
I'm a multi podium-winner motorsport racing driver, former automotive journalist, and more recently, a former digital marketeer. In 2002, I was nicknamed ‘Jill of all Trades’ in a Lifestyle feature in the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
My Experience
I have a BA, an MBA and Level 3 Common Core Training for the Childcare Register. I'm a member of Pacey and work closely with them to adhere to best practice. I keep up to date with the latest guidelines on children’s safeguarding and development, attending regular training sessions and network with other childcare professionals.
Aside from my experience raising my own children since 2015, I began working professionally with children in April 2021 and with that I bring a huge amount of enthusiasm and loads of hands-on experience. I am constantly self-evaluating and aiming to doing things better than anyone else.
My EYFS training is completely up to date and exceeds all statutory criteria. I'm Paediatric First Aid trained and comfortable administering asthma medication, Epi-pens, and delivering basic first aid. I'm trained in Child Safeguarding, and have certificates in Food Hygiene, Engaging Boys, Treasure Baskets, SEND Leadership, and Speech and Language Development in Under 5's. Due to my training in Special Educational Needs and Speech and Language, I know how to look out for developmental/speech delays, identify early signs of autism, and am knowledgeable about the SEN process.

I couldn't reccomend Shelley high enough. I was very nervous about my 1 year old son entering childcare but Shelley I quickly had every confidence in Shelley. I viewed a number of settings in the area and it was clear Shelleys setting was outstanding immediately. He has been there a year now. She genuinely cares about the children she looks after. My favourite things about her setting is that: the kids go on trips weekly to the farm, zoo, museums etc., they are never stuck at home on other days they go a range of playgroups. In Shelleys house she rotates toys and activities so they are always doing something different.
It was a priority for us that our son ate well and she provides organic farm meals that are delivered and so you know your child is eating healthily.
Shelley stays in touch with us through the day and uses an app so we know what is happening. She knows our son really well now and she really personalises his care. We haven't ever had him come home upset, unchanged, or with any of the complaints many of our friends have from their settings.
My son currently attends this setting. Shelley is extremely thoughtful in the activities she plans - and let me say she plans lots of stimulating activities for the children and is constantly taking them out to interesting places. She cares a great deal about their development and is extremely good at monitoring and updating parents with their child’s progress. My son is quite advanced with respect to learning now and I have to credit her with most if not all of this! My son loves to go to Shelley’s house and is upset if he cannot g. We have had other childminders before and she is gold standard in comparison. We didn’t know what we were missing until we found Shelley! Highly recommend.
Shelley has looked after both of my children, a boy and a girl, and has done a fantastic job at helping them become kind, confident, playful kids. She is warm and welcoming, funny and light-hearted which is what you need after a long day. I chose Shelley as she has a great setting with great toys and activities to stimulate and develop their little brains. I love the fact that she can put 2 little ones in her car and be free to go wherever she wants. All those outdoor trips you just don’t get with a nursery. I wanted my kids to feel like they were at home where they had loads of time in the garden, able to be themselves but also with some structure and routine, and never bored. Shelley has a great reputation with the local mums and play groups. She is so professional and takes immense pride in providing an excellent service. She is organised, structured, and could hold a conversation at the same time as keeping tabs on what the kids are doing around her. Shelley’s youngest boy is a gentle boy, and her eldest boy has been so lovely with my eldest boy and has really looked out for him, because my son was so small for his age, so he was very protective of him. The confidence my kids gained and the exposure to so many activities, environments and experiences has definitely had a direct impact on their happiness and overall well-roundedness.
