My Summary

My Experience

I regularly babysit my lovely little brother, Jayden, who’s 7. He is in the process of being disagnosed autistic with PDA traits. He comes across as very anxious sometimes but don’t let this fool you as the second he is home he is absolutely bonkers! He keeps me busy and I feel I am very understanding and educated on ASN and can support him very well. We love going to the park, dancing to music, and getting creative with crafts like painting and messy play. At home, I also have a big, wild dog and a cat—I love animals and enjoy going on long walks, especially with my dog. Spending time with Jayden (and all the chaos that comes with pets!) made me realise how much I enjoy caring for others, which is what led me to pursue a career in childcare.

I’ve learned how to plan activities based on a child’s age and stage of development, and how to support their growth through play and interaction.

I also have hands-on experience working in a nursery, where I helped the practitioners plan and run activities for children aged 3 to 5. I supported their daily routines and helped care for their individual needs.

For two years, I was a carer for my disabled sister, supporting her development through sensory play. I was also able to change her feeding tube & feed her through a g-tube. This gave me valuable experience in caring for children with additional needs.

Currently, I work in an after-school care service with children aged 5 to 12. My role involves preparing snacks, setting up and leading activities, and supporting a fun, safe environment where children can relax and play after school. During school holidays, I help plan and organise full-day outings with groups of up to 30 children to places like parks, museums, and other attractions. I also support children with additional support needs (ASN), helping to meet their individual needs and ensure they’re fully included in all activities. I take pride in building strong, trusting relationships with the children and being someone they feel safe and happy around

My Qualifications

I currently hold an HNC in Childhood Practice and SVQ7 Social Services Children and Young People. I’m fully PVG certified, registered with the SSSC, and also have up-to-date certificates in Paediatric First Aid and Food Hygiene.

I regularly take part in training through work and have completed in-depth courses on autism and ADHD awareness. Supporting children with additional needs is something I’m really passionate about, and I see it as one of my strongest areas of practice. My goal is to continue building on this and eventually work towards an HND in Additional Support Needs
