My Summary
About Me
Welcome to Little Bell,
My name is Federica Barbato and I am a registered childminder working within a registered childminding agency. I am running a child-minding business known as “Little Bell home nursery” which is currently based in Luton, but the business will be relocating to West Hunsbury within the West Northamptonshire area from January 2025.
I have 5 years of experience as a nursery practitioner in various nurseries based in London where I have gained my NVQ level 2 in childcare. In 2021 after having my daughter, I have decided to work as a childminder providing a high quality, professional childcare setting for the children attending my care. I have experience in working with different age groups ranging from 6 months old to 5 years although I am currently accepting only children from 18 months onwards. My greatest experience has been the upbringing of my daughter that is 4 years old.
About my setting:
The setting follows the curiosity approach pedagogy as I am working towards the “curiosity approach” accreditation.
The curiosity approach aims to allow children to explore their creative freedom by igniting their natural curiosity and imagination. I believe that children learn through daily experiences and my setting has been setup using real, authentic and natural resources reducing the use of plastic toys and focusing on implementing eco sustainable resources. All the resources have been carefully collected and selected considering the different play schemas of the children and to support and encourage the imaginative play.
Loose parts play activities are heavily incorporated within the setting. The use of open-ended resources helps to encourage problem solving skills in solitary and group focused activities. I truly believe that this allows children to express their imagination, awe and wonder which aids to develop the child’s skills.
My daily practice as a childminder draws inspiration from the Danish “Hygge” method as this contributes to creating a slow and enjoyable moment within a warm and calm atmosphere where children can thrive, feel safe and secure.
With my Italian background, I love inspiring my activities around the Montessori pedagogy and the Reggio Emilia pedagogy.
My setting is a nature-based setting. I incorporate the use of natural resources within indoor and outdoor environments. One of the most important aspects for me is ensuring that the children are involved in daily outdoor activities as I believe this helps the child to feel more connected with the natural environment helping to support their mental well-being. Spending time outdoors helps the children to build up their character and their self-confidence.
Little bell setting is focused on promoting child -led learning which allows children to be responsible for deciding what or how they wish to learn. I truly evaluate the children’s feelings and emotions during my daily practices and my aim is to create a sense of belonging for each child attending my care.
My setting is a bilingual setting as I speak Italian as first language and fluently English. I love teaching Italian words to the children, and I love encouraging them to explore the beautifulness of different cultures through my daily practices.
All the children and their families are welcoming in my setting.

Our daughter has been attending Federica's setting for 7 months. From the moment we stepped into Federica's house we knew we made the perfect choice for our child - the place is so cosy and welcoming, we knew we were in good hands from the very first moment.
Federica is an extremely nurturing and caring person and our daughter is always so excited to go to her place and so happy when she meets her in the morning.
The activities organised are perfect for children and I really appreciate the use of natural resources to play and the outings to the local park - I regularly receive pictures and videos of my little one which is a lovely touch. Communication is excellent and we are always kept up to date about every little thing.
Also, I am Italian and I am so glad my daughter could hear the language outside of our home - this was so important to me and when I found Federica I couldn't believe how lucky I was!
If you are looking for a childminder Federica is the absolute best you could ask for - we will never forget her and everything she did for our baby.
Grazie mille per tutto! ❤️
I had a highly positive experience with Frederica and Sara, and I greatly value their integrity and transparency. From the beginning, my son was 17 months faced some challenges in adjusting, and I appreciated their consistent communication, keeping me informed about his emotional state, whether he was upset or happy. I was also impressed by the variety of activities they organized, both indoors and outdoors, which provided a well-rounded experience. Additionally, they regularly shared photos and videos, offering valuable insights into his daily activities and progress, they reflect how happy and engaged the children are. Knowing that my child are in such a nurturing and stimulating environment bring me great peace of mind. Thank you for your dedication and for fostering such a positive and enriching experience for my child.
I wholeheartedly recommend their services, and I am deeply grateful for the care and attention they provide.
Sofia was approx 17/18 months when she started with Federica and Sara at Little Bell. They both made Sofia feel very welcome, safe and calm, which helped her settled in very quickly and she immediately loved spending time here.
Very soon I noticed how much she was learning every day from various sensory games, arts and crafts, nature walks, communication with other children. The communication is great, I love getting their video or photo updates! Federica and Sara have such caring, loving and mindful approach which is felt both by us parents and Sofia. I love how they created this wonderful warm family evironment where children can truely thrive. Sofia is enjoying every moment of it and always looking forward to come back.
Federica and Sara have a genuine passion for what they do and we couldn't wish for a better place for Sofia to attend.
We can't thank them more for everything they do for Sofia every day!
I was very nervous about leaving my son with someone else, as a first time mum I definitely needed someone I could trust to leave my baby with. As soon as I met Federica and Sara in person I saw how caring and lovely they are, and how much they know about the different techniques or approaches to learning. My son just turned one when he started his settling sessions with Sara and Federica, and even though it's meant to be a bit of a process, he was so happy with them that it only took 4 days of settling for him to be able to stay full time. I am Spanish and I asked Sara if it was possible for her to talk to Ivar mainly in Spanish to keep up with his learning, and I am extremely happy and impressed of how much he has learnt! He understands so well what I asked him to do, either in Spanish and English. I love that they use all of their languages knowledge with the kids, Federica native language is Italian, and Sara's Spanish. I've never going to forget one day that I went to pick my son up and one of the other kids (British) told me Ciao! as I was leaving, I think it is fantastic. Ivar is learning and very enthusiastic to eat by himself with cutlery now, which it's also thanks to them, and he shows to know lots of nursery songs dances from their music time.
I could be here all day explaining everything I love from them. I feel extremely lucky that I found them, and I am a 100% sure that I won't be changing him to anywhere else until it's his time to start school.
I have a very clingy daughter & I was dreading her going to a childminder. From the moment she started her settling in i could tell these ladies would care and be there in the way I needed them to be. Gast forward almost a year and my daughter asks me regularly if she is going to play at their house today, she loves it. From the seasonal themed play room, to their park fun, to their singing, the children have a day jammed packed with activities and no screens in sight. These ladies are a blessing and I'm so grateful I found them. I'll be at work and get a little video sent me, or a photo and its so reassuring. Could not recommend them higher.
