About Me

My name is Emily and I am 21 years old. I am moving to Bath this September to study a PGCE in Primary Early Years Education after just graduating with a first class degree in Drama from Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. I am looking for some part time babysitting work that will fit around my placements with university. I will be available anytime on weekends and from 5 onwards on weekdays…..please don’t hesitate to message if you think we would be a good fit.
I am a hardworking and reliable person who enjoys helping others. I love working with children because I love how excited and proud they become when learning something new or improving a skill.
I have been a babysitter for over 5 years and during my time at university worked as a nanny. I don't mind helping with the homework, I love to cook and would say I have become pretty good at it after three years of being at uni. I also love to get the kids involved with the cooking, the hands on side of it generates the whole idea of learning through play, which I am a huge advocate of!
My family home is in West Wales, so my hobbies consist of paddle boarding, surfing, and all things outdoors. I also love singing and playing guitar. My next goal is to learn the piano, so if your children play, that is a bonus, and maybe they could teach me? Ahaha
I believe I am fun, friendly and compassionate but also know when it is time to be firm. I am rather emotionally intelligent and I believe that I am good at getting children to open up and discuss things with me.

My Experience

Nanny, September 2022 - June 2024:
During my second and third year at University I worked for a family who had a nine year-old daughter and a five year-old son. My duties included but were not limited to; doing the school pick up, going on the bus, taking them on their bikes to different extra curricular activities, baby-sitting them in the evenings and over night when the parents were at work or went out, bathing them and getting them ready for bed, doing homework with the eldest and practicing numeracy and reading with the youngest, playing games and doing arts and crafts. I worked for this family every week day, so my duties were rather full on however, the bond and trust I was able to generate with the children was unsurpassable. The four year age gap and the gender difference between the children meant that they did argue rather a lot and clash at times because they had different needs and wants, and both competed for my one on one attention. When I first started working with them I had to adjust my ways of working to suit both of the children and learn how to balance and prioritise certain needs. The youngest could get rather agitated and found it hard to express his emotions, which was something that I had learnt to work with and help him deal with. The eldest got jealous of the youngest getting any attention, so also played up quite a bit. Working with them both has definitely been challenging at times, but it has taught me so much and helped develop my ability to balance specific duties of care, priorities needs and take control of situations with the ability to deal with them in a calm and organised manner. I got very close with the family and would still be working for them now if it wasn’t for my change of location for university. I still keep in contact with the children and love to see how they are growing and flourishing through life!

Social Organiser/ Experience working with children, June 2022- July 2022, June 2023 - July 2023, June 2024 - July 2024:
Throughout June and July of the past three summers I have been employed by Select English Cambridge as one of their Social Organisers. I have been working at one of their Summer programmes in a private school in Bury St Edmunds. My role has been to organise and run activities and day trips for the international students (ageing from 10-16) as well as look after them, for example, waking them up and putting them to bed. I thoroughly enjoy my time working at the summer school, shown through my eagerness to return year after year. I am able to really get to know the students on a personal level and they not only see me as their teacher but also as a friend. I have faced many challenges throughout my time there. As it is a residential placement, I am required to provide 24 hour care to the children if necessary. I have had to look after over 100 students at a time when we are at the school, whether that is playing football with them, doing arts and crafts, swimming or baking. I also have to look after over 20 children on my own when we go on our day trips and tours of London, Cambridge etc. I have to ensure that I am very organised and prepared for anything to happen. I have to ensure that I can complete the task at hand, as well as keep them all safe, and try to keep them interested and happy, which at times is very difficult! I also have to be very compassionate and caring. many of the children get home sick and it is part of my role to look after and support them when they feel vulnerable and down.

Childcare/ babysitting experience, October 2021- April 2022:
Up until last April I held the responsibility of nannying a nine-year-old girl. My weekly obligations included; completing the school run, taking her to clubs which took place across the city, cooking her evening meals, coaching her with her homework and instrumental practices, taking her on fun excursions like going to the local park or basketball court to practice her netball. This role brought on an array of challenges. The child could be rather temperamental at times and struggled with communicating her feelings. However, I believe that when I found myself in these difficult situations, I was able to guide her through her conflicts in a very calm and positive manner. This enabled me to develop my leadership and organisation skills.

Childcare/ babysitting experience, 2018- ongoing:
For the last 4 years I have done a lot of babysitting for multiple clients. My main job was looking after a now 5 year old girl. Her parents are doctors and during the holidays and weekends needed childcare for her. I had to change nappies, play with her, cook for her, read with her, take her out for walks and adventures, and get her to sleep. I gained so much experience and developed so much as a person from this job. I loved the whole experience, especially seeing her grow up and develop as an individual. I have loved seeing her confidence grow and the bond I was able to form with her is untouchable. She has since had a little sister and I have looked after the both of them together a few times which has definitely tested my organisation skills at times but I have been able to take so much from those times and develop. I have also done some evening babysitting work.

Pottery painting studio assistant, Nov 2016- Sep 2019:
I worked as a studio assistant where I was given the opportunities to help children with their artistic needs. This was a great experience and I was able to develop my organisation skills as well as build relationships and help others.

Classroom Assistant, Ysgol Wirfoddol Penboyr, July 2018:
During the end of my summer school term in 2018 I spent two weeks assisting students in the primary school with their work and learning. I enjoyed the experience thoroughly and at the end of the two weeks I was given the opportunity to lead the class lesson which really challenged me but helped me develop my leadership and communication skills. The two week experience taught me how to take the lead and direct others as well as giving me the opportunity to bond with the students to earn their trust.
