About Me

Hiya, I am Blakenie, and I have just turned twenty four, and i’m originally from Somerset in South West of England. I moved to London about 3 years ago, purely to widen my horizons and see what's to offer elsewhere. I have fallen in love with London and I still have loads of places on my list to explore including: food, (massive foodie) and fun activities to do!

I enjoy music and dance, and I spend my spare time going out for dinner, going to exciting cocktail bars with friends and the highlight of my week are the dance classes I attend.

I live with 3 friends in North London, after moving from my original flat in Camden! We now live in a beautiful 3 storey home that we feel super lucky to live in - a big improvement from our dingy Camden flat, I have to tell you!

I have a brother and sister on my dad's side of my family, age sixteen and twenty one, who has a baby herself - my little nephew Noah! I also have a young brother from my mum's side, in the house I grew up in. My mum had me young, so my little brother and I actually have a 15 year age gap, which is the same as my mum and I. It has shown me a lot about gratefulness and quite frankly how incredible parents are, especially seeing the parallel with my brother and I’s age gap. My little brother is now 8, and he's the apple of my eye. We are best friends and he gets very excited when I come home from London, which is about once every 1/2 months. I have a large family, in which we are all very close, including lots of cousins - the eldest being myself. I am extremely family orientated, so I go home often to see them!

My mum's ex-husband was in the army so as a child I moved around a lot in my life, including Germany! Unfortunately, I cannot give you anything exciting to tell you about the country as I was just two years old. I moved most years in primary school, so I learnt the ability to make a lot of friends quickly!

In the future, I hope to become successful in being a great, sufficient nanny for the time being, as well as working at a close bar on the weekends. I’d like to continue with dance and potentially blossom this hobby into a career, I have thought about teaching children dance quite a lot more recently too. My rough 5 year plan is to stay in London for the next two to three years as a base - maybe more depending on commitments - whilst I explore the world whenever I can. After, I plan to settle down and potentially live in the city closer to my family, which would be Bristol (an agreement I had with my mum once I said I was moving to London)

And that’s my life in a little nutshell!

My Experience

I have looked after children in my family for as long I can remember, and with such a huge family consisting of mainly children, I have looked after many ages! I did the daily duties as well as nighttime bath and bed. My first experience outside my family, was when I have looked after two girls when I was 15-17, who were super sweet. They were seven and ten, and apparently tricky with their parents, I thought they were really well behaved after learning their behaviours, and how to get through to them, I felt that they were really polite girls that I enjoyed babysitting in the evenings and for bedtime.

I have been with a nannying agency for over two years. I have worked with two previous families and currently work with three families now. The ages I looked after for both prior families were 5 and 3. My duties were both after school nannying, including bath and bedtime routine. My last family ended because I had other commitments with dance at the time. I was asked to come back but my commitments took longer than we originally thought, which was such a shame. I was sent pictures and cards by the children through the parents after leaving the family and I felt very lucky to be part of their family for a short period of time!

I currently work on Mondays, Tuesdays Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays with three families, consisting of one family of three, and their little cat. The child is six, and we have great afternoons together after picking her up from school, such as baking, going to the park, arts & crafts, and cupcake trips! I have been with them for a year. The other family I have recently started working with are a family of four. The child has just turned four years old and started her first year at Primary school, she has a one year old brother that I am occasionally asked to pick up from nursery. I have been with this family for roughly 9 months. Lastly, on Fridays I help with the school drop off for two little girls ages 6 and 11.

What I am looking for now is to use up my mornings a little more by helping a family before my school pick up commitments with the other families from 3pm - 6pm, or potential babysitting in the evenings and weekends as I would like to look for a family where I can continue working with the families.
