About Me

Hello, my name is Harriet.

I am looking for babysitting on Thursdays, Fridays or weekends.

I am currently working as a pre-school class teacher Mondays - Wednesdays.

Before this I was a primary school teacher for 7 years, and briefly a nanny.

I am a creative, kind, reliable and hardworking person. The safety of children is my number one priority, although closely followed by fun! I have recent first aid training, including specifically for small children, and am DBS checked.

I am nurturing and encouraging of children to build up independence with things such as self-care and emotional regulation. I also understand the importance of routine for children, and therefore am always punctual and organised with their activities.

I really enjoy cooking. I am confident at putting together healthy meals and snacks. I have also baked lots of yummy things with the help of mini chefs.

I am a very creative person. I enjoy arts and crafts. I love a good sticker, pom-pom, glitter and glue creation! I am experienced at facilitating creative play for children- from painting with sticks, to making playdough, junk modelling and more. I am definitely not afraid to get stuck in and messy.

I have a particular interest in nature and love being outdoors. I have led many bug hunts and flower spotting trips. I always have my wellies at the ready, enjoying a good puddle jump or outdoor excursion.

I would be happy to do some tutoring or simply help with homework or reading. I believe in instilling a love of learning and that that learning should be driven by children's own interests and curiosities, and not feel like hard work!

I have a passion for quality children's literature. I am constantly adding to my own personal collection of books, my favourites at the moment being Mabel and the Mountain by Kim Hillyard, Naughty Bus by Jan Oke and Shark in the Park by Nick Sharrett.

My Experience

I currently work part time at a Nursery, as a pre-school teacher.

I got my Primary PGCE from Cambridge, which is also my hometown. I have been a primary school teacher for the past 7 years, including a year abroad in Warsaw, Poland. My last class I had a lovely reception class and have enjoyed working in EYFS for 3 years. Before that I worked in Year 1 for 4 years.

I was a nanny for 2 boys age 2 and 5 from September to December. I was in charge of activities, pick ups and drop offs, planning and preparing meals, keeping their toys and bits tidy, and personal care.

I have a degree in Fine Art from Newcastle University and was lucky enough to do an Erasmus year in Munich, Germany.

From my year working in Poland I am well versed in working with children who have English as an Additional Language.

My Qualifications

2:1 Degree in Fine Art from Newcastle University
PGCE from Cambridge University
