My Summary
About Me
I am 41 years old and live in Hull, I tutor across the country as I love to meet people from other cities and backgrounds, I studied in Hull until moving to Manchester for three years where I went to university.
I love teaching and building my learners confidence, working at their pace and structuring my lessons to suit their needs rather than using set teaching plans.
I have always worked in supportive roles but found I wanted to help those who need that extra push, someone to go that extra mile for them and I am doing it.
I believe mistakes are good as we learn from our mistakes, it also shows the learners are being challenged, I make sure I encourage my students and my children to have a go and not worry about making mistakes when learning.
I am fun and bubbly (yes, I know, that's what everyone says, however I believe and am, and others do say so, so I will keep it here ?) I am hard working, honest and kind, I work hard and love supporting others, I love my job and my students as they make every day different,
I am a wife and step mm to two beautiful little people, whom I love very much, we love to have fun, crafting, bike riding, skate boarding (them not me, I am a good spectator and an excellent motivator for those falls) baking and playing board games, not to mention make up and shopping sessions with my daughter.
I love to socialise and meet new people
My Experience
I have worked in training and educational environments over the last 18 years, I loved all of my roles which have all provided me with a wide variety of skills, which I now use in my role as a private tutor, teaching both adults and children.
I have worked with learners who have difficulties learning and or disabilities.
I have experience teaching both groups / classes of up to thirty students and teaching on a one-to-one basis.
I teach writing, reading, English, maths, phonics, spelling and words first.
I have been tutoring from home for the last 3.5 years and absolutely love my job, I teach both online and face to face when needed, I decided to teach from home after working in primary schools, seeing how teaching staff are very restricted when it comes to supporting those students who struggle with learning or who need that extra push to meet their full potential and build their confidence, I am very much motivated by watching my students progress that little bit at a time working at their pace.
I have learnt over the years that my tutoring and lessons need to suit the individual and their needs, therefore I like to have a discussion with the parent/ carers before teaching, providing my first session free of charge as this enables us to get to know each other and create a relaxed environment to learn.
This also supports me finding out my students’ interests, likes and dislikes, which enables me to make lessons interesting to them, in turn making lessons much more enjoyable.
My experience teaching has taught me that student centred lessons, with varied teaching styles works much better as the student then stays engaged for longer periods of time and provides many ways to learn, again, making learning practices to suit the individual learner and their learning styles.
finally, we are all different, it’s good to be different and that's how my lessons should be, not structured one for all lessons that are stale, I need to keep the learner’s interest, however, I understand this must change if the learner needs structure and familiar ways to learn.
My Qualifications
I completed/qualified My CELTA – Cambridge University Teacher training, previous to this I qualified CACHE - Level 3 Certificate in supporting Teaching and Learning in schools and Dyslexia screening (DVE) Level 4.
I studied in Hull and Manchester gaining a BH Hons, GNVQ and B Tec.
Over the years I have completed a lot of training including mental first aid, autism awareness, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), literacy and grammar training, Visual Stress Testing (2 days) ,
