My Summary

My Experience

I have always cared for my younger nieces and nephews for as long as I can remember, from taking them out and having fun to helping them with homework and giving them advice. I love spending time with my family, watching them grow up to be good honest people who have unique and creative personalities. It has been a highlight of my life which continues every day.

In 2017 I was given the opportunity to have some work experience in a bright horizons day nursery. Although I was unable to experience all aspects of the role, I thoroughly enjoyed my time there engaging with the children and learning what the job entailed. I spent my time here working with all the age groups assisting in many activities. My time observing and collecting information was for my school report, so watching how the staff interacted with children and the precautions taken when being around them was very informative. I was curious to develop an understanding of the relationships the children built with each other and how they communicated through play, which I found insightful.

In 2018 I was encouraged by my school to join the National Citizen Service program to develop my team building and self-reliance skills. The program ran for four weeks, two of which were residential. During the last two weeks, we were allowed to choose a charity from various options to work within groups. My group decided to work with an Oasis children adventure playground and youth club who unfortunately had a major lack of funding and was run solely by volunteers. We spent a week with them getting to know the children and the staff to develop a sports event tailored to the budget and the space. Given the fact that we had no funding, we had to collect donations and fundraise. Finally, we collaboratively created a full day of sorts of events and activities tailored for the children and young people who took part.

In 2019 being at The Brit school exposed me to many different opportunities, one of which was being able to do a community project with Red gate school for special needs children. This was my first time working with children with special needs, so I was very excited to see what differences a specialist school has compared to places I've experienced before. When we arrived at the school, we were met for an introduction to the program, which outlined the rules and the course content. We then got the opportunity to meet and oversee the children during a sensory activity.
After getting to know them and their abilities, my team and I had the challenge of creating a custom sensory activity for them. Taking into consideration their requirements, we decided to tie-dye shirts so that they could feel the fabric texture as well as see the bright colours of the dye. The children were able to engage in the activity, and we were clearly stimulated. Building on the success of the program, I became a volunteer at the school one day a week.

I have now been working as a nanny almost a year now working with an amazing family ages 3 and 6.

My Qualifications

I have both my English and Maths GCSEs as well and a Level 3 extended diploma in visual art and design from the Brit school for performing arts and technology. I also have first aid training as well as health and food safety qualifications.
