About Me

Hello, I'm a single mum (by choice) to a happy, chatty 17-month-old boy and occasionally a dog! I work for myself and hope to build up to 2 or 3 days per week by the middle of next year. I parent in a very attachment-focused way. Contact naps, BF on demand, baby-led weaning and co-sleeping, etc, and my parenting ethos is that if it wouldn't be ok to do it to an adult in my care, it's not ok to do it to a child. As a result, my boy is very chilled and friendly, and we're a relaxed and happy team, but as it's just me, he is VERY attached and whoever comes into our home is going to need to work with us to slowly build up his (and my) confidence to be away from each other. The longest we've ever been apart so far is about 45 minutes.

Hello! Please only apply for this post if you're clued up on attachment-led / conscious/respectful parenting and childcare. It'd be great if you could let me know of a few examples of ways in which you interact with, behave around, and manage the behaviour of children that align with respectful and attachment-led childcare.

Whilst I appreciate all parents have different views, for me, my son's attachment and relationship with positive adult role models is much more important than his having peer relationships right now. It's for this reason I'm seeking a nanny, rather than sending him to nursery. So if you're one of the nannies that sit in my local library or park chatting to one another whilst the children in your care play with each other, this isn't the role for you. I'm looking for someone who will be dedicated to giving my son focused 1-1 time at all times whilst they are in your care. I'm not looking for opportunities for him to have peer interaction.

Initially, I'm just looking for someone who can come to our home as a (paid) 'friend' who is providing support and getting to know us, maybe sitting with my son whilst I am in and out, increasing over time to me being able to disappear off to the office for a couple of hours at a time whilst you do your own thing and eventually two mornings per week. I live right next to Horfield Common so I'm well placed. I like my son to spend time in the real world and in nature, rather than 'child-focused' spaces like playgrounds and soft play, and we have a nice garden he likes to play in.

This job would be perfect for someone who would like some extra by-the-hour work now, with a view to eventually becoming our nanny 2 mornings a week over time. This gives you time to get to know us. My son's name is down for the local Steiner Kinder when he is 3, but we aren't 100% set on this and there is a chance that we would increase to 2-3 days per week with the right nanny.

I'm happy for the right person to begin ad hoc, anything from a couple of hours to half a day per week from July, slowly building up as you get to know us, it can be any time of day initially. In the start, you'd be coming to be with 'us' until my boy is comfortable with you. Someone who is also happy to do light house things like hanging out, washing, and loading and unloading the dishwasher is also a real bonus for me for those times he just won't let me put him down, and if you're a real dog person, that's an even bigger bonus.

Even if you think you'd only be able to provide a couple of hours per week at irregular times for now, please feel free to apply. I'm looking for the right person to become part of our 'family' rather than someone who can fit a perfect schedule. I'm happy to work together to make it work. Ultimately I'd be happy with just a bit of help from someone to begin with who can eventually become our nanny if that's how it needs to be. So don't be put off if you aren't free until later in the year.

I have a massive spare room in my home and being just us, I'd also be open to providing the right person with discounted temporary accommodation (alongside what you're paid as our nanny), so perhaps people from outside of Bristol might also like to apply.

Looking forward to having a coffee with you and exploring how we might be able to make this work.
