My Summary
About Me
My name is Danielle, I am 28 years old and live in Edinburgh.
I have worked within the childcare sector for over 11 years. I am passionate in delivering high standards of learning, care and support for the children, families, and employees in my care. I am a creative person, I love arts and crafts and designing play areas to spark children’s curiosity. I take great pride in my knowledge and my achievements; and knowing that my experiences can have a positive impact on children’s lives. I am a well organised person, with working with children I have had to organise many sports days, class trips, graduation ceremonies, nativity plays and community outings.
As a current nursery manager, I have never forgot the sole reason that I got into the profession, the love and ambition I have for giving children the best possible start in life. I feel my life experiences could provide the family with the perfect balance of my childcare professional knowledge and expertise, with a genuine interest in supporting and caring for the children when families need support.
My spare time is spent spending time with my husband John and our dog Blue. We love going on walks, especially to North Berwick and the Pentlands. We even got married in April 2022, at the Pentlands!
My Experience
I started my childcare career in October 2010, I began as a nursery apprentice at Little Monkeys Nursery at 16 years old. I knew from very early age that childcare would be a huge aspect of my life, as an only child I enjoyed the company of others and I wanted to be involved in the care sector. I completed my apprenticeship and gained my qualification to become a qualified Early Years professional. I progressed into managerial roles, first as a room senior and then becoming manager in 2015 – this at the time made me one of the youngest registered managers in Scotland.
I am currently employed as the manager at St Margarets Nursery & Pre-school, which is the second largest nursery in Edinburgh. We currently have over 200 registered children, and care for 121 children per day. I am responsible for the effective management of all aspects of the centre and lead a successful team of over 40 Early Years Professionals, 3 which are registered Teachers. This role has seen me transition into the professional I am today.
One of my favourite aspects of my job is being able to create exciting fun learning experiences for the children. I start by providing them the opportunity to share their own interests and let them take the lead and see how I can link this with an area of the curriculum. I believe children can learn though play, without them even knowing.
I have held child planning meetings with health visitors, educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, additional support for learning teams and many other professionals to ensure the children in my care get the best support.
I recently volunteered my current setting to be inspected by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education: with a focus on the impact of Covid-19 on children’s learning and wellbeing.
