About Me

Hello, I'm a Nanny/Tutor with afternoon/after school availability in the Manchester area. I have an educational and health background.

I have lived and worked in the north west region, in Manchester and Cheshire, for over thirty years, and during this time I have acquired broad knowledge of all things childcare, education, health, recreational and entertainment for babies, children and young people.

My colleagues, family, friends describe me as; calm, patient, creative and kind, with a good sense of humour and an ever-ready plan-b up my sleeve. I describe my child-caring style as fun and gentle, but firm and fair.

I enjoy cooking and am an advocate of the from-scratch-home-cooking approach to nutrition - I believe good nutrition it is the foundation for healthy child-development - children need good fuel for everything they do.

I grew up in a big, old, busy house with 6 children and pets! Our home was always bustling; I'm familiar with family dynamics and not afraid of a bit of organised chaos. I am also Mum to two wonderful adult children of my own, 24 and 26, who recently graduated and flew the nest.

My Experience

I have worked in various roles supporting children and families throughout my career, including, as a Family Support Worker, a SENCo, and as a 1-1 Behaviour Management TA.

I have professional 0-16 experience, both in-home and in educational settings, and knowledge and experience of the EYFS curriculum and child development.

I am TA L2 qualified (Key Stages 1&2), and have held responsibilities for PSHE and Citizenship learning at KS1. I have also have worked as a Pastoral Tutor teaching Health Studies at post-16 level.

I have extensive SEND/SpLD's experience, particularly Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ADHD and Autism, and have experience and knowledge across all key stages in these area's. I have alternative/home-schooling IGCSE's/Int Baccalaureate (IB) experience also.

Happy, confident children thrive best when supported to develop and explore through self-directed play, curiosity, conversation, reflection and ‘time’. Children need time to be able to properly acquire and process the information they absorb in order for them to flourish.

This can be difficult to always achieve in a busy modern world. Every child is different (just like adults), and I very much encourage individuality and independence with all the children and young people I work with.

I promote an appreciation of simple things through outdoor play, adventure and being in nature, and I try to strike the balance between increasingly tech-heavy influences on children by providing opportunities for enrichment in activities like; drawing, reading, music and dance, sports and the arts, and by encouraging and incorporating contemplation, relaxation and mindfulness into routine - I do this with the underlying belief that being unrushed and quiet is as equal in child-development-value to being fast-paced, busy and active all the time.

It is a philosophy that has worked well for myself and my own children. I use a child-centred approach to nurture the unique interests and abilities of a child by praising them in their exploration, and empowering them to accomplish whatever they choose.
