My Summary
About Me
Hi! I'm Sapphire, I'm 26 years old and I am currently training to be a Social Worker. As an aspiring Social Worker, my dedication to the mental health and well-being of children is very important and I'd love nothing more than to make a difference in children's lives. Whilst I am studying this topic, I would like to pair my existing knowledge of child development with real-life experience and develop my own skills in working with children.
As an individual, I love nothing more than being outdoors, I love to travel and experience different cultures and I am a massive foodie so I am always baking/cooking something new! I've worked in communications for the past six years as a copywriter, so I am also obliged to do some creative writing from time to time and I love to read too. Presently, my spare time is spent getting to know Manchester (as I'm new to the area) visiting museums, driving out to the peaks or the lakes and of course, working on my assignments!
My Experience
As the eldest grandchild out of 15, I have grown up in a very close-knit family with lots of babysitting duties over time. With a sibling who is six years younger, I think it was natural for me to always connect with children as I was so involved in his upbringing given the age gap.
I have always been a trusted individual amongst family and friends and during the lockdown and I looked after a 10-year-old for the duration of the working week whilst her mother was a front-line worker. This was a challenging time for everyone and a confusing time for a child, but despite it all, we managed to have some great times together. We went on regular walks, we did lots of baking, and worked through her schoolwork together, using creative techniques to keep her engaged.
My ability to work with children has also been shown by attending many school fairs and talks whilst in full-time employment, whereby I would interact and coach children on future subject decisions for GCSE and A-Levels. I also completed a Health and Social Care Diploma which I achieved a Distinction, this covered topics such as Safeguarding, Child Development, and Psychology. In addition, I have an up-to-date DBS which was completed for my current place at Manchester Metropolitan University.
