My Summary
About Me
After studying my Level 3 CCLD and several years of experience working in nursery settings, I felt like it was time for a change. I have a huge passion for childcare and ensuring all children are able to reach their full potential in all areas. I love being outdoors and exploring new places. I am fun, creative and spontaneous and feel this blends really well into being a childcare practitioner. I am always ready for anything, whether that's building a pirate ship from old cornflake boxes, a bedtime story or sorting out a grazed knee. I also can't go anywhere without a list, so I can ensure that if needed your children's day is planned down to the exact minutes. I have experience working with children with Additional Learning Needs and have my own ALN too, so I feel this is an advantage as I am able to relate and work from a personal level. My goal is to one day have my own business and open a nursery of my own, and this feels like a great place to start building a reputable career in childcare. I have several years of knowledge and experience from ages 0-7 and would love to build and expand on this. I am fully qualified, fully trained and fluent in British Sign Language and the Makaton signing system, first aid trained, DBS checked, and have several other relevant qualifications. I have my own car and am available for school runs and other transportation.
My Experience
In my time as a childcare assistant, I have learned many skills and benefited from these greatly. I learned how to work as part of a team and how to solve issues within settings together, while also discovering how to do this independently, which I often needed to. I successfully communicated with parents and carers of children during daily handovers and information exchange and built positive relationships with them. I worked well with colleagues and management alike and established a great rapport within the team.
In my previous role as a childcare assistant, I worked in the 2-year-old room, responsible for children under a 4:1 ratio, carrying out daily responsibilities of safeguarding, risk assessing, planning and carrying out activities multiple times a day. Ensuring the children had engagement, education, care, comfort, clean toys, an enriching and positive environment. Making sure the children were fed, well-rested, clean and keeping to strict nap times, feeding times and dietary restrictions. Preparing meals and cleaning the kitchen. Ensuring the staff room, reception area, classrooms and toilets were always clean and presentable. Helping out with school runs, toilet training children, ensuring smooth transitions throughout the nursery and into other settings. Liaising with parents, ensuring they were updated with daily observations through the Famly App and during handovers.
About 6 months into my role, the nursery were looking for someone to add to their team in the 3–4-year-old room, they asked and I said yes. This moved my ratio to 8:1, and I was able to use this opportunity to increase my responsibilities and prove myself. I learned some valuable lessons, such as how to really blend well into a new team within the same setting, how to stand on my own two feet and trust in myself to get things done. I learned how to multi-task, stay on the ball at all times, it also increased my patience and endurance.
