My Summary
About Me
Hello and welcome, my name is Aliria, I'm a qualified Doula since Nov 2021, and to tell you a little bit about myself; my first introduction to a doula was my mother. Throughout my childhood my mother was the sister, cousin or aunt who would help care for the women in my family during their pregnancy, birth and postpartum, as well as care for their newborn, at times incorporating our Angolan (Afican) customs and methods for treatments using simple ingredients found at home
Years after experiencing the challenges and glory of pregnancy and childbirth (being a three time mum) I decided to dedicate my time and effort to being a doula - to help and support you through pregnancy, discuss birth plans and positions, work collectively with health professionals and help you make informed choices and be that reassuring presence and provide you with emotional support, in what may be some of your most vulnerable moments.
I will also assist you during those early days when everything can be a bit upside down, uncertain, demanding, and not to mention, a bit sore..
I provide practical support with:
birth positions
breast feeding
herbal baths - a warm bath filled with natural herbs for you to sit in and soak then a body exfoliation *subject to package and allergies*
belly binding *subject to package*
helping to prepare delicious nutritious meals *vegetarian, vegan and plant based included*
support you and your partner with older children while you bond with your newborn or catch-up on some much-needed rest
I'm here to listen to you and be your sounding board. Supporting and encouraging you to trust your own instincts and find your own parenting style and will be on hand to signpost you to further specialist support if you feel you need it.
I'm a firm believer that having someone to support you in those early days, weeks or months can have an impact on your physical, mental and emotional well being and perspective on motherhood. My goal with all my clients is to be a positive contribution to this life changing experience. I'm fluent in English, Portuguese and intermediate in Spanish, I've also worked with people of different ethnic groups in addition to working with families with different faiths, particularly within the Christian and Islamic faiths.
