We hired Paige to look after our baby (6months) and toddler (18 months). Paige was brilliant with them, appeared keen to learn, was never late and proactive at organising activities.
Our 18month old was enjoying the activities and we didn’t have a problem with this but the 6month old who was 8month when Paige left wasn’t getting the opportunity to practice her mobility. We told Paige we would prefer the kids go out for activities in the morning, come home for lunch or eat lunch out but home for their nap after which they can have a relaxed afternoon through active play in the house or reading stories to them. This was to ensure both kids got something out of the day and the baby could crawl and develop.
Both children have nap times which could last for 2hours at times. We mentioned to Paige that the nap times could be used to do the kids laundry which she wasn’t interested in and never did.
She also mentioned that other nannies she spoke to were doing average of 100miles a week, the comment got us thinking whether the trips were solely in the interest of the kids or a way to increase the monthly pay through mileage claims.
Some of the activities planned included either weekly zoo trips or willow farm and we weren’t sure (average of 23 hour round trip) how an 8month old was meant to develop her mobility while spending that much time in a car seat and then most of the day in a push chair or what a 22month old was meant to benefit from a weekly visit to the zoo/ farm rather than a monthly visit.
We felt that Paige was getting her training from other nannies instead of getting the right training she needed to further develop on the job, she doesn’t have business insurance for her car and we felt with more training she could be brilliant. When the issue of training was brought up as what we would expect her to be discussing with us (instead of what other nannies were doing in their jobs) as we agreed to pay for this in her contract she said she has spent the last 3years of her life being trained for the job (college or secondary school?).
The children loved Paige and it was a shame what we both wanted for them did not align. We have no doubt she will do well in this profession as she has she is very motivated and keen.

Response by Paige on 03/11/2023:
I was great full for the opportunity given but would like to clear up a couple of things within this which is false information, I can confirm I do have business insurance which can be proved to any future employers If needed, the baby was given multiple opportunity through that day for tummy time even when we was out we would be at play groups and I ensured that the youngest spent that time focusing on her mobility I couldn’t have given her any more of an opportunity if I tried. I have worked for another family since and have no problem doing house work or laundry and currently put on 5+ loads of laundry every day all I ask is to be shown the correct way as all machines can be different. On the topic of milage nanny's do not profit off of this at all if anything we lose money I just wanted to provide the children with as many different learning opportunities as possible to help aid their development. (Was a 20 minute drive to zoo).
I Would like to ensure when I am working I am completing my job to the best of my ability and this is often only manageable through effective communication would this have happened then all of this could have been avoided. Thankfully I have had a lot more experience since this and haven’t had any problems with any of the other family’s I have worked for ☺️
