My Summary

My Experience

Between January 2014 - June 2015 I worked in a nursery as an assistant. The main room I worked in was the preschool room which was ages 3-5 but each week I would usually cover someone in other rooms so I gained lots of experience from all rooms and all ages, the youngest being 3 months old. I would assist the children with meal times, feeding them, serving their lunch/tea, and clearing away afterwards. I would also sit in a meeting with my room leader and other colleagues on a weekly basis to plan the following week, according to what my key children needed to focus on, and would base activities, games and play on a particular skill from the EYFS each week. I also recorded my 9 key children's progress with 'snapshots' which would be put into their file on a weekly basis.

Between September 2015 - May 2017 I worked in a primary school as a teaching assistant, ranging from the ages 5-11. My daily duties would include preparing work for the class teacher, taking small groups of children to conduct a focus group of a particular subject, this was usually phonics but I covered other subjects on a weekly basis too, including maths, literacy, science, art, and RE.
I would also observe this children during mealtimes, encouraging them to try everything on their plate and to try and finish their meal, this was every other week. On the weeks I wasn't in the dining hall I would be on the play ground conducting activities for the children such as football, basketball, dodgeball, tennis, hockey and supervising board games that were on the benches around. I absolutely loved joining in with this part because the children would get so excited and so determined not to let the 'teacher' win! I feel this gave me a closer bond with many of the children because I was looked at as a 'fun' teacher rather than a miserable one. PE lessons were my favourite! Aside from the fun things I feel this job was a real eye opener, and a huge learning curve as I worked with children with physical disabilities as well as additional needs. These included cerable palsy, asd, autism, Down's syndrome, ADHD, dyslexia, and children that were severely mentally delayed.

In between this job I had a baby myself, Freddie, my son was born March 2016. This was the toughest but most rewarding job ever! And I absolutely love being his mum every single day! As much as it is tiring some days, I love being able to get creative with him, painting, glueing, playing with play doh, building houses out of cardboard boxes, playing in the garden, visiting zoos, farms, sea life centres, parks, swimming and feeding the ducks. I then had a second child Louie in October 2019.

I joined my current employer in March 2021 and have since then gained my level 3 early years educator qualification, first aid and food hygiene. After completing this I was promoted to room leader for the 18 month - 2 years room, where I support my team to focus on our children’s development according to the EYFS.

• Babysitting from £15.00 per hour
