My Summary
About Me
I am a qualified & experienced Primary School Teacher & SENCo.
Tutoring: I teach in a calm, positive manner ensuring that the sessions are structured around the needs and learning style of the individual child. This enables them to learn effectively in the way that most supports them and is likely to support them throughout their life. Learning includes a mix of practical and formal recording methods as well as the use of technology where appropriate. Whether the child is a proficient learner who needs challenging, a learner who requires a little boost in confidence or one who requires revision of the basic skills, I plan individual sessions specifically to meet their needs. Building a relationship with the child is at the core of my practice; it allows them to enjoy their learning and to take ownership over it. It also allows me to be able to keep them engaged in their learning and adjust my provision for them as needed. I aim to promote their confidence in their own learning abilities in addition to gaining new knowledge and understanding of specific topics. If I can help a child to recognise that they may learn in a different way but they still learn the same information, this will boost their confidence (to ask their teachers for what they need for example). The hope is that they will grow in motivation as well as self-confidence which will in turn promote their academic performance and success.
Child Care/Babysitting: Before training as a teacher, I worked in a Nursery for a year looking after children from new born babies to 4 year old children; attending all relevant training to complete this role. Prior to that, I babysat through college and university and I also regularly support my sister and her family (3 boys aged between 2 and 12 years). So my experience with children is vast and long (not to show my age!).
My Experience
I have been working in Education for 10 years, teaching across all Years from 1 to 6. As a Primary School Teacher, I have taught all subjects (bar languages) on the Primary School Curriculum. For the last 7 years, I have been working as an Inclusion Lead (SENCo) ensuring that each child has the access they need to the learning in schools.
As an Inclusion Leader, I have also led the staff (Teachers and Teaching Assistants) in ensuring the best possible provision is available for the children in their care.
My Qualifications
Tutoring:
National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO)
National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership (NPQML)
PGCE in Primary Education
BA in Accounting and Finance (previous career as an Accountant)
Additional training which I have attended and then disseminated to staff at school includes: Dyslexia and Dyscalculia training, Autism training, Social Communication training and many more.
