My Summary
About Me
Hey there! I work in a local Scottish high school involved in attainment and further support and have been tutoring students for over six years :) I teach in a variety of subjects including:
1) SQA Maths and English: Maths up to Higher, English up to Advanced Higher. I provide preparation for exam periods, dissertation support and a general understanding of critical thinking. Really love this work, particularly analysis of literature and trigonometry! (who wouldn't)
2) Psychology at University Level or Below: I have a M.A. in Psychology, and was particularly good at the statistics. Naturally, I'm happy to help anyone who needs some assistance in Psych as a course, be it the somewhat dry statistical analyses or the fun modules and subcategories.
3) Piano and Guitar, Beginner: I've been playing piano since I was 7 years old; what started as a hobby forced by my parents turned into a crimeless passion. I picked up guitar as well at the age of 14 and am happy to help you gain a bit of that passion as well. For guitar, online and in-person tutoring work, but since I don't have a piano at my home, online isn't possible for that.
My Experience
I have been working within a local secondary school for the last five years, focused on 1:1 support for students ranging from S1 - S6 and have helped significantly for attainment as well as achieving high grades in NAT5 and above.
Beyond academic support, my position as Pupil Support Officer (Nurture) has meant that I've put many hours into working with pupils with special needs, including ASD and ADHD. I've enjoyed working with a diverse range of students from different backgrounds and always relish the relationships I build with them :)
I have also been tutoring privately for the past seven years, and have helped over a dozen students achieve in the SQA exams: ranging from English Advanced Higher to Higher Maths, as well as general study support. I think a good relationship and rapport to the student is also really important for deep learning, so always ensure to make the sessions fun and interesting :)
Additionally, if you're intrigued in music lessons, I've been aiding performance within my secondary school job for the last four years. I've performed in every school concert with students, with whom I've done ensemble pieces, duets and even self-written original pieces! It's been awesome!!
My Qualifications
I have a Bachelors in Psychology from the University of Edinburgh, with outside courses in Business and Biology as well.
I also have an IB diploma from an international school in Germany.
Lastly, I have a COSCA Counselling Skills certificate.
